[solved] "listen to your harddrive"

there was a topic a while back on how to listen to your harddrive but i can't for the life of me find it.
does anyone have the link or the command used?

i figure it's something like cat /dev/sda | aplay or dd if=/dev/sda | aplay but i only get a few seconds of audio from that.
