No wireless after installation *

hello
I have installed arch with core install because after several netinstall attempt, no source worked pc but it seam that after reboot (unreachable or slow download broken (only 2 package downloaded) , and I am stoned that my wifi card who worked on ubuntu 7.10 and on slax 5.0.0, ifconfig do not recognise  wlan0 although on the core CD it is recognised.
so dhcpcd don't found my wifi card and wpa_supplicant say:
IOCTL[SIOCGIWSCAN]: network is down although with the same wpa_supplicant.conf, I can have internet with the CD (but useless)

so how can I fix the problem to be able to make the update?

if I have to install again arch, which source should I select with the net install

I changed your topic title, if you want help in your native language (which I guess is French), you can use the 'Other languages' subforum or the forum of the French Arch Linux community. No offense but your English is a bit hard to understand.

I trust you read the documentation (Beginners' guide, Official installation guide) before venturing into the dark realm that is Arch Linux? You should also make clear what you have tried so far to fix your problem.

Re: No wireless after installation *

Hello I have  followed the guides and the wiki.
on CD I used the wpa_supplicant and ping google said that all is all right, but the net install didn't work since after 10 attempt on 10 different mirrors, I had too many brocken download or source unreachable. so I have no other choise than the install from the CD.

after the install, there is no solution to make wpa supplicant work since wlan0 doesn't exist from ifconfig. mayby because I have to install wireless_tools , but I can't do this because I need connection to install package.

and finally I can not do anything when I try to make a chroot because I can not get internet in chroot from the host .

however on the wiki I can read

If you have only wireless internet available

The wireless_tools package is now available as part of the base system and is also on the live installation media (CD/USB stick image) under the base-devel category.

You cannot initialize wireless hardware without these user-space tools, so ensure they are installed from the installer media, (during package selection), especially if you have no means of networking other than wirelessly. Otherwise, you will be stuck in a recursion when you reboot your newly installed Arch system; you will need wireless_tools and drivers, but in order to get them, you will need wireless_tools and drivers.

so why don't I have this package althought I installed base-devel category from the CD?

I believe it is available on the CD install image but not selected by default

Re: No wireless after installation *

Base-devel does not contain wireless_tools prosper. In fact, unless you're going to do any package building you don't need that group at all, certainly not when you're installing. If your wireless interface does not come up, check dmesg for pointers. Make sure your driver is either provided by the kernel package or that you have downloaded it before you attempt to install so you can install the package after completing the installation routine, to get a wireless connection.

Re: No wireless after installation *

I can't find "daemons array from rc.conf so I post network and daemons

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# NETWORKING
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# HOSTNAME: Hostname of machine. Should also be put in /etc/hosts
#
HOSTNAME="myhost"

# Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
#
# Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
# - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
# - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
#
# DHCP: Set your interface to "dhcp" (wlan0="dhcp")
# Wireless: See network profiles below
#

#Static IP example
#eth0="eth0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
wlan0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(wlan0)

# Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each route then list in ROUTES
# - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)

# Setting this to "yes" will skip network shutdown.
# This is required if your root device is on NFS.
NETWORK_PERSIST="no"

# Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
# if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
# - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
# - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
#
# Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
#
# This now requires the netcfg package
#
#NETWORKS=(main)

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
#   - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond)

Re: No wireless after installation *

The default network init script does not support wpa connections, only wep and wired. What are you using to start wpa_supplicant? There are various network management utilities that can automate this for you - netcfg, wicd, networkmanager, etc.

Re: No wireless after installation *

The network init script is failing because it is running dhcp before the interface is available i.e. before you run the wpa_supplicant command. netcfg or another network utility will sort this out for you.

Re: No wireless after installation *

with netcfg I have the automatic connection, but init3 fail to start network: how can I make it start dhcp after the interface is available so that the boot time will be 20 secondes shorter.
