invisible cursor on laptop

when i use startx to start the gnome gui i have no cursor visible but i can use it to click on everything i just cant see the cursor -.-

Is your system up-to-date?  Which kernel version etc. are you using.

my uname -a is Linux 2.6.35-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT i686 pentium III (coppermine) GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

my system is up to date its a fresh install of that distro

I had something like that happen to me too. Do you have your synaptics touchpad driver installed and configured? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics

There was a bug with earlier versions of 2.6.35.  Are you sure you did a  "pacman -Syu" with an up-to-date mirror?  What does "pacman -Qi kernel26" show?

so if i try sudo pacman -S xf86-video-fbdev i get a lot of

error failed retrieving file from [mirrors] transient resolver error

and i cant download anything at all :<

That is another problem to do with your mirrors or network.  xf86-video-fbdev-0.4.2-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz is on the mirrors.
