This happens frequently to all my dropdown menus in every program. If I cycle between menus too quickly, it leaves a shadow of sorts that cannot be removed without cycling through all my menus to redraw the one that caused it in the first place, or kill the process that created it. This is obviously a huge hassle. Anyone with similar situations or tips?
I'm running GNOME with a Nvidia card.

Appears to be the same issue. I'm probably going to wait for Xorg to be patched.

I have this too when I run xcompmgr (with Openbox and an ATi card). When I kill xcompmgr, it dissappears.

heh, i get the opposite..composite bug. Or maybe it's the same. Sometimes my menus refuse to appear! (Sometimes sub-menus won't expand unless i hover twice over them with the mouse). Yes it's a composite and/or compiz bug, it goes away if you turn them off.

I have the same problem as you do as well. I noticed that menus also sometimes refuse to appear unless you try to expand them twice, the first time they just leave an outline.
I'm running metacity with compositing.
