Dell Latitude E6410 - No ethernet - Intel 82577LM

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to install Arch on my Dell Latitude E6410 however I cannot seem to get the ethernet to work - it at first wasn't recognised, but then with a little troubleshooting I can now see it and bring it up but I can't get an IP Address via DHCP.

I have had a bit of a search through the documentation and the forums here, and others have reported being able to get the Intel 82577LM to work but everything I have tried doesn't seem to work.

1) It was suggested to do a modprobe -r on the e1000e module, and then a modprobe e1000e. The module did reload, but the interface still wasn't recognised.

2) I then booted up the installer with the 'nomodeset' parameter and that allows me to bring the eth0 interface up, but I can't get DHCP. Someone suggested using dhclient instead of dhcpcd but dhclient isn't recognised as a command (unless I've stuffed something up). I've tried setting up a static IP address, but I don't seem to have any connectivity with the outside world (even though I've double and triple checked the settings from this PC (on the same network) to make sure I'm giving it the right gateway etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am fairly skilled with Linux, but I'm not great at troubleshooting it.

Thanks very much.

Have you tried installing the latest kernel26 from testing yet? It fixed my problems with my intel nic not being able to acquire an ip from my router.

I, too, am having problems getting an IP address with my Dell Latitude D600 since the upgrade to the 2.6.35 kernel.  My woes are detailed here:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=107609

So how exactly did you manage to install the latest kernel from testing?

I tried enabling testing in pacman.conf and then ran:

pacman -Ss testing/kernel26

per the instructions in:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=102413

But I just get a return prompt.

Should/could I download all the kernel26* files from the testing repo and try installing it manually?

Arrgghh!! "pacman -Sy".  I can't tell you how many times I looked at that command and didn't notice I was using "pacman -Ss".

Thanks.

Alas, it didn't solve my problem.  Sigh. :-(  I still can't get an IP address after connecting to my router.
