Making a system image

Hi, I would like to know what tools I can use to make an image of my install. The effect I want is to be able to wipe my machine with the image I made and be back up and running quickly after some sort of horrible system failure.  And if anyone has any tips on best practice and what not I'd love to hear.
Thanks

Re: Making a system image

I use "fsarchiver" from the System Rescue CD. There are other tools such as those on the bottom here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Disk_Cloning

Thank you very much this was just what I needed. I'm going to play around with a couple of the suggestions there, clonezilla sounds pretty great also.

Re: Making a system image

Like lagagnon, above, I use FSArchiver (but from the Parted Magic LiveCD) and it's worked perfectly every time that I've archived, and/or restored from it.  Note that when restoring an archive to a new drive, it has been required (at least in my case) to restore GRUB to the MBR through other means.

I'm a big fan of Clonezilla (http://clonezilla.org/) just from an ease of use perspective.  Images can be done to a USB connected drive, NFS share, or SCP'ed.  I use it in a corporate setting and find it ideal our uses...

+1 Clonezilla is excellent, and very stable. I used it to clone one hard drive to a new one, bigger : no problem, even the mbr.
