[SOLVED] New User/Profile [SOLVED]

Hello all,

I'm trying to add my wife as a new user. This is supposed to be her own login profile as she understands from the WinXP login screen. Having done welling readin the wiki and installing arch without any smoke coming from the computer I thought it would be no sweat. I repeated the steps from the beginners's guide:

sudo useradd -m -g users -G audio,lp,optical,storage,video,wheel,games,power -s /bin/bash tammy

Yes I replaced archie, then added the password with:

sudo passwd tammy

Before I could verify that all the default stuff that goes into /home/tammy was there I was stopped at the slim login. I would type in her username and password, the screens would black out as if to start openbox, and slim splash screen comes back up as if I entered the wrong user and pass. To test if I added the user correctly I logged in under my name and opened a terminal. I logged in with her name and password from there and the bash prompt changed.

What could I have missed?

did you check /var/log/slim.log? and maybe /var/log/auth.log?

Did you create a /home/tammy/.xinitrc file telling X what to launch for a window manager?

Philosophy is looking for a black cat in a dark room. Metaphysics is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there. Religion is looking for a black cat in a dark room that isn't there and shouting "I found it!". Science is looking for a black cat in a dark room with a flashlight.

No to both suggestions. I'll check that out.

Lagagnon, your question suggest I can have one user log into gnome, while my user name will log me into openbox. Is that right?

Re: [SOLVED] New User/Profile [SOLVED]

I edited the .xinitrc file for the new profile. That did the trick.

Thank you
