After loading my install disc boot loader and selecting "run arch linux," the system reboots right after showing a message about EED Probing.
Any ideas how to fix this?

You need to post more information. Things like the hardware and the exact EED probing thing if possible (use a camera if you have to).
From what information I have I assume this rebooting occurs after the Grub menu but before the kernel is loaded. "EED Probing" sounds like something in the initramfs. Do any other distros cause the same problem (particularly ones that use Grub for the live CD bootloader)

The official archlinux installation disc uses Isolinux, not GRUB.
To me, it sounds as if the kernel might be causing your problems. I would try "archboot" which is an unofficial installation disk maintained by an arch developer and has a new kernel (2.6.35).

My system has an AMD Athlon x2 6000+, Nvidia 8800gts, and 4 GB memory (single channel). Mobo is an MSI KA780G.
The exact message is I get before the system reboots is:
Loading /boot/vmlinuz26
Decompressing Linux... mg .......................................... readyProbing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok

so, first of all try eed=off and after you boot
try to findout what it is and if you need it.
