Laptop Screen Off When Closed

Is it possible to force a "xset dpms force off" on a laptop lid close? I have gnome-power-manager and it takes care of dimming and everything else so it seems to be working. I also messed around in gconf-editor and enabled it on laptop lid close. I am lost on what to do next.

I also see ACPID and Laptop-Mode-Tools but do not see any applicable configuration settings in there.

Hello.
First you have to install acpid package. After installation you can set your settings in /etc/acpi/handler.sh file.
(Search for button/lid)
