Escaping !

The WPA passhprase for my home network begins with a !. The wiki instructs you to use wpa_passphrase mywireless "passhprase" however whenever i enter my passhprase i get "-bash !(rest of the phrase): event not found". \!passhprase works however the "\" is recorded as part of the passphrase as is visible in the line #psk="\!(passphrase)". Is there anything i can do here?

Try using single quote instead of double quote.
