[SOLVED] xterm quits unexpectedly

Hello

I've been running arch with openbox for a few months now.  I noticed the other day that when xterm is started it runs for a few seconds and then just quits.  No error messages are given and the exit status is normal (exit code of 0).  I'm not sure when the problem started since the terminal I normally use is urxvt.  But there are a few situations where I would like to use xterm.

I did try installling a few other terminals like aterm and wterm and these worked fine.  And as I mentioned, I've been using urxvt which doesn't give any problems.

Any ideas?
Thanks

So there are no errors in /var/log/kernel.log?

grep xterm /var/log/kernel.log

Re: [SOLVED] xterm quits unexpectedly

Do you get any output if you run xterm from another terminal?

Also post your .bashrc and .Xdefaults/.Xresources if you have them.

No errors show up in /var/log/kernel.log.

No output at all when running xterm from urxvt or aterm.

I did just notice that after a few seconds aterm fades to gray but is still usable.  I am using cairo composite manager.  I disabled it and now xterm works fine.  So it seems cairo-compmgr isn't working properly.  I'll try and play with the settings of that and figure out what the problem is.

Re: [SOLVED] xterm quits unexpectedly

So the culprit seems to be the "Freeze" plugin for cairo-compmgr.  If I disable it xterm runs fine.  I'm not sure if this is a bug upstream.  I'm not even sure what that plugin does so I'll keep it disabled and mark this as solved.

Thanks for the speedy replies.
