Is There An Alternative To Thunar & GVFS

Hi All

Upto the latest version of Thunar i was using this as my File Manager, but since i updated i now need to use gvfs etc ... Is there an alternative to using thunar, where i can still have wastebasket and automounting etc ?  I tried using something yesterday, and i have no idea what happened, but it deleted half of my /home folder so i have had to do a clean install today

I am using Arch & Openbox by the way

Many Thanks

Why not use gvfs? It's quite nice, specially since it can do sshfs, cifs etc too.

There are many many file managers available. Pick one and use it if you don't like Thunar.

Have you even tried searching the wiki for what other file managers are available.

Wiki to the rescue:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … e_Managers

However I am doubtful you will find a file manager with a trash and automounting and without gvfs.

automounting doesn't have to depend on the file-manager. A simple udev rule or using udiskie should solve that.I have never had desktop icons so I wouldn't know about getting a Trash icon, but iDesk and PcmanFM do manage desktop icons. (although I am not sure if the new pcmanfm uses gvfs or not)

pcmanfm indeed has automounting and trash support, without relying on gvfs. It also supports tabs, unlike thunar.

@lucke - have you tried PCManFM's trash feature without gvfs installed? For me it doesn't work without it.

Hm, I tried it now and it doesn't seem to work (I normally don't use trash).

Xfe is a really great file manager.
Anyway both Thunar and PcmanFM uses gvfs but you can install gvfs-lite (gvfs without deps):

That's what I use instead of Thunar:
-Pcmanfm-git (+ libfm-git, + menu-cache)
-gamin
-gvfs-lite
-gnome-disk-utility-lxpolkit (+ lxpolkit-git)

EeePC 1000H blk, 1gb ram. ArchLinux (+Openbox)

Rox and udiskie does the trick for me.
