Re: Xorg problem

If you have a nvidia card, why would you install intel drivers???

Also can you please use code tags around all the output that you have pasted. Makes it easier to read.

Re: Xorg problem

You could  say I installed Nvidia initially..I thought if I installed the Intel driver at least it could help me to log into Xfce and if need be uninstall nvidia...Also I have installed the wireless firmware and wicd , so it would be easy for me to go to the GUI and then up the network...I tried all the wpa Commands - ifconfig eth0 up ; Inputting ESSID/Passphrase to wpa supplicant, dhcpcd etc but not working..

Regarding the tags around the code, I am sorry , I am rather new to the forum and I am not sure as to how to do it..If u can guide me I will do the same asap.

[    60.724] Current Operating System: Linux myhost 2.6.33-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 13 12:06:25 CEST 2010 i686

Start by upgrading your system and then post if the problem persists. The current kernel version in [extra] is 2.6.36.

You should use this guide and make sure not to skip any steps.

Re: Xorg problem

you can put

around the output  (without the spaces of course)

Re: Xorg problem

I just got a look at the following link..

http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 10491.html

The last para tallks about

1. Uninstalling proprietary nvidia...But looking at the output , I dont think there is any reference of NVIDIA ...So can I conclude it is not a problem ? So far I have not tried to uninstall anything
2. There is a mention of installing "nouveau-drm"..What is this ? I was not able to find this in the steps in Wiki guide

I will also try to upgrade the kernel  and see

Re: Xorg problem

upgrade the whole system, not just the kernel

nouveau-drm and nouveau-firmware aren't needed or used anymore, you just need the kernel module which will autoload and the DDX driver (xf86-video-nouveau)

if it still doesn't work, post the output of `lspci -v` and `lsmod`

Re: Xorg problem

Thanks thestinger ...It worked after a full update! I am able to launch xfce4 ..The screen resolution is also pretty good...I guess you have to do the basics right first!
