ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

You know...

My video card is Radeon X1600 Pro.

Just yesterday, I update the Arch and kernel.

After I reboot PC, I found the screen is flash per some seconds.

I look up the Arch wiki, and follow the step: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI

I add "radeon.modeset=0" to "/boot/grub/menu.lst", and run the command "mkinitcpio -p kernel26".

I reboot PC again, oh man, the Arch tip: the Xorg boot is wrong.

So can't enter Gnome.

Who can tell me why? I'm waitting for your help.

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

Please edit the title of the thread and replace it with something sensible: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ow_to_Post

Have you tried the other troubleshooting suggestions on the ATI page?

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

Apart from modeset=0, there is also nomodeset.

Some more information would also be helpful: are you loading the radeon module? Do you have an xorg.conf? Are there any errors in your logs etc...

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

Arch wiki tell me:

"If radeon was added to the MODULES array in mkinitcpio.conf to enable early start, remove it."

"Renaming /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which may include options that conflict with KMS, will force Xorg to autodetect hardware with sane defaults. After renaming, restart Xorg."

So I don't loading the radeon modules in "mkinitcpio.conf", and have rename "xorg.conf".

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

So what video driver are you using?

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

So your card is supported and you have the correct driver: you should be fine (providing your driver is up-to-date).

Start again from scratch. Follow the early start method https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … _KMS_start and post any errors if it doesn't work.

Is that your idea of reporting an error? Seriously, if you want help, you are going to have to make a little bit of an effort yourself...

Re: ATI + KMS = Screen Flash.

Xorg.0.log don't have any wrong report.

I can boot Xorg and enter Gnome.

Just screen flash per five seconds.
