GRUB Password protection without MD5

Hi,
I'm wanting to password protect GRUB, but I changed my hash from MD5 to the SHA512 system. The wiki shows me that grub needs to be given a password in its config file in MD5 format, how can I do this with SHA512 instead? Because when I changed to SHA512 I had to change several pam.d files, and redo my passwords with #passwd <user> to make sure they were rehashed.

Thanks,
Ben.
