Repositories

Hi, I recently installed Arch on my computer, and everything is fine except when i try to add pacman repos.  I try to goto /etc/pacman.conf , and it says "-bash blah blah "permission denied".  When i put in that command, I was using my root login. Also where do I find the repositories?

Re: Repositories

Which command did you try?

I'm worried that you may need to do some more studying before you are ready to use Arch Linux...

Re: Repositories

/etc is owned by root, so obviously its not going to let your user account fiddle with it.

and what do you mean you want to find repositories?

Arch has 3 official repos - core, extra and community. AUR is an unofficial repo. Other than that, if you cannot find packages in any of the repos (highly unlikely) - you should just compile it and build from source

EDIT : +1  to drcouzelis

Re: Repositories

/etc/pacman.conf is a file, not a command. The repositories are already listed in that file, and the default settings are recommended.

If you decide to change it, use your preferred text editor.

Re: Repositories

And as a side note, "bash blah blah blah" isn't what you'd call informative; no one can help you if you don't bother describing the actual problem.  And based on the threads you've opened thus far, I might have to agree with Ixsible and drcouzelis; maybe you should check out the stuff on the first wiki page and evaluate your decision to use Arch for now.
