Gnome refuses to start

I just installed Arch-2011.03-core-x86_64 on a 160GB second SATA hard drive. After connecting an ethernet cable,
I setup Pacman as in the install guide.and downloaded all the required packages to start Gnome (except xorg-xinit,
xorg-utils, and xorg-server-utils).
However, when I typed 'startx' in the terminal it displayed: "startx: command not found".
This isn't the first time it's displayed such error messages. The question is why did it not just perform the requested
command, but displayed the error and what did I do wrong? Thanks in advance:)

Re: Gnome refuses to start

I think the hard drive that I installed Arch on May have something to do with my problem.
Since  my PC has an Asus Wi-Fi NIC in it; I have to temporarily connect via a
Ethernet cable in my son's room.
So, today after I connected and booted the Arch SATA drive; I couldn't access either
the Internet or any configuration files. Which makes me think that buying a New hard drive
apposed to using a SATA (with an unknown history) given to me by my son.
I didn't know that those xorg packages were needed until researching on the Arch Forum.
