I am using slim as my login manager, and ratpoison as my windows manager. I edited the rc.conf file to start slim. Then made a ~/.xinitrc file and put exec ratopoison in it. After rebooting and trying to login to my user I get the error message failed to exectute. I can login as root and ratpoison loads fine. I don't know what the issue is. Thanks in advance.

From everything that I could find, the error that you're describing is caused by a nonexistent ~/.xinitrc file. I know that you said that you had created one already, but is it in your user's home directory? If you created it as root, the file would be /root/.xinitrc rather than the intended /home/user/.xinitrc.

What if you logged as your user without going through slim... Can you start ratpoison as normal user from console?

Please delete. Something must of been wrong with the .xinitrc file after copying over the old one with a new one the skel it is working fine. Thanks
