Multiple Shells permited?

I've been running Mint 10 for a couple of months and while I like it, I don't like their upgrade path (clean install only). I'm looking for a rolling distro to get around that. Since I'm new to Linux I would also like to be able to use different shells. Is it possible to do this with Arch, ie. have a menu at boot and choose Gnome or KDE?

I seem to recall that Ubuntu did this, but I don't like Unity, there's little or no Gnome 3 support and it's not a rolling distro.

Arch is a rolling distro and I think I could learn a lot using it.

Re: Multiple Shells permited?

Gnome and KDE are desktop environments as far as I know. A shell would be dash, bash, zsh etc. (I know nothing about gnome shell).

Seems the answer is 'yes, you can'.

Re: Multiple Shells permited?

You can have as many window managers as you like. If you use GDM/KDM or any login manager, you can simply select the one you wish just as you described it. Otherwise you can achieve the same by modifying the .xinitrc script, which is not as convenient in this case but would do the job as well.

And I believe you won't regret if you give Arch a chance.
