Hi,
New user to arch and linux in gereral, i have come from ubuntu.
In ubuntu when a application required higher permissions it asked for the root password so it could do what it wanted to do. In arch i am running gnome3, have policykit and consolekit installed and i think its working to a degree as its sometimes askes for passwords for mounting certain things but when i try and run a app like Gparted that needs root permissions it wont ask and gparted wont run (it shows a error message saying that it needs to run as root) i have the same thing with unetbootin.
Is there anyway to get a similar system to ubuntu ? or maybe i should return to ubuntu and do some more learning before diving in the deep end here
i have added this AdminIdentities=unix-group:wheel
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/50-localauthority.conf
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you
craig

Maybe I'm getting you wrong but
gksu gparted
starts gparted as root (gksu has to be installed)

that works well and brings up a gui interface to enter the password.
Would like a app like gparted when it requires that elevated privilege to bring that up automatically without touching the command prompt.

Modify the shortcut in the menu (what DE are you using?) and change the command to "gksu gparted".

since rebooting after installing gksu the apps are loading up with the prompt for root now. thanks all
