"you have a new mail in /home/USER" message

this message appeared some time ago in the terminal.....it never appeared before

I can't find no mail in my home, neither does the "mail"-comand

what's this all about?

I'm not sure if I understood. bash is checking my ~/mail folder? theres is nothing refering to this in my .bashrc

Check your environment after you login:

env | grep MAIL

On mine it defaults:

$ env | grep MAIL
MAIL=/var/mail/fukawi2
