I use the CTRL-F shortcut in chrome quite frequently to find something on the page. A little while ago, however, and on just one my computers, this began to open up xterm instead of the find box.
Is anyone aware of a way I can re-instate the original functionality?

Your window manager must be set to grab those keystrokes. Window manager shortcut keys take precedence over application shortcuts. Whatever WM you use you will need to navigate to its keyboard settings and change things...

@lagagnon
Is there a way to get all the shortcuts, like (I think) 'bind -P' for the shell?

Thanks - I'm using fluxbox, so I'll take a look and try and figure out where I can tweak the settings

That would be ~/.fluxbox/keys

OK - so I've taken a look at ~/.fluxbox/keys and the only one that started xterm was:
Mod1 F1 :Exec xterm
I've commented this out - but it's obviously not ctrl-f anyway. It made no difference BTW :-)
There is no reference in the keys file to ctrl-f anywhere...

Try uninstalling xterm and then see how Chrome reacts to Ctrl-F.
Also try a clean ~/.config/chromium or maybe try an different package for Chrome/Chromium (check AUR).

I had already uninstalled xterm. I will try what you suggest about chrome though.

I'm now having exactly the same issue on firefox - never managed to fix it in chromium either...
