Stupid questions but in need of answers

Hey there all

Here's my issue, i have 2 HD (one of them is external, the one i'm installing arch linux on) and i installed everything normally, till the grub configuration part where i got a grub error 17 and i have no clue what could be wrong about it, unless, i installed the grub on the wrong place (Windows ->sda1/sda2, Arch ->sdb2/3/4).

Thanks in advance.

Looks like google could be your friend.

see here > http://stringofthoughts.wordpress.com/2 … ianubuntu/

You can get around this by using GUID's and Grub2. This might be your best solution since grub-legacy doesn't support GUID's and with an external hd you will probably run into the system switching up the hard drive designations often.

Just my thoughts with the information provided by you.

See the wiki here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB2
