[SOLVED] Installed GDM but does not show up on reboot

Hey guys, maybe i'm missing a simple step here but gdm doesn't show up when the pc starts.

Installed gnome using pacman -S gnome
Added dbus to start daemon.
Installed gdm using pacman -S gdm
edited the inittab file commenting out the # tag from the gdk line and recommenting the line before it

Do i need to install gnome extra or something else?

You could just add gdm as the last entry in your list of daemons in /etc/rc.conf

Re: [SOLVED] Installed GDM but does not show up on reboot

I thought about that but i was following the wiki and it said the recommended way was to add it to the inittab file.

Comment line

id:3:initdefault:

and uncomment line

id:5:initdefault:

then uncomment line

x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon

.
If line

x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon

is not commented, comment it.

Re: [SOLVED] Installed GDM but does not show up on reboot

OK i reinstalled archlinux from scratch. Let me make sure i have this correct because i followed the wiki down to the exact letter and still could not get this to work.

Could it be my video card. it's an intel integrated video card. Because i tried everything above and still could not get it to work. the inittab and the daemon way.

It should work, AFAIK. If your graphic card is not powerfull enough the gnome will go in fallback mode. What is you computer specifications?

I am insane. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing and expecting different results. I did the same thing and it works now smile Hello from archlinux. Did i mention i love how there are no useless programs on my pc? Just core install + chromium.
