Does anybody know what to put in your .bashrc to get color with ls like other Linux distributions e.g. Gentoo? Thanks!

alias ls='ls --color=auto'

arch_is_awesome, I suggest you check the manpage before posting.
Not sure if aliasing it to 'ls' is the best choice.

alias ls='ls --color=auto'
Doesn't work! I want colored text like when I first setup Arch Linux and made my user account! Not blue highlights over regular white text!

You want colored prompt?
The colors depend on what exactly you're listing: directories, files, executable files, names pipes etc.

Good luck with your demands.

arch_is_awesome, could you post a screenshot? I have no idea what are you talking about so I can't help you.

You've mentionned Gentoo: as far as i know, i gave you the alias used by this distribution (but may be its colors are differents).
The colors depend on the file type (here, blue for directories, white for regular files, cyan for links, etc.)
As mentionned before, i suggest you read the ls(1) manpage, searching for the --color option
You may also read dircolors(1) manpage
(BTW, avoid the ! sign... it's rather non friendly)
