Man this is an old thread... I started reading the first post and went "Huh, I didn't know about a TU meeting!", but it was about two years before I became a TU so it was to be expected. 
Continuously bumping old threads without adding any great insight just becomes annoying (with one exception...).

Arg.. shouldn't this thread be unstickied/closed before more people get confused?
I think the aur homepage and the wiki page ( http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR ) are pretty clear.
