Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Someone should update the wiki page with the unofficial repos and add the xgl repo and this one, Also delete the ones that are unavaileble anymore. That page needs work.

You seem to know what has to be changed. Please go ahead, it's a
wiki and therefore you can modify the out-of-date pages.

I put up a new e17 repo, it's hosted on a fat pipe, updated 2-8 times a month depending on cvs activity and time available, they are based on mOLOk 's pkgbuilds in AUR, so if you want changes/additions, bug him, and it'll automatically get included in next update.

[takhis]
Server = ftp://takhis.net/arch

Recent builds and scripts are at http://ftp.takhis.net/arch/builds/

Enjoy your E, and remember to drink water wink

Thanks reverie, much appreciated

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Hi,
I'm not clear how to get this repo - maybe you can point me in the right direction. Did you add that server to your pacman configuration file and download the repo? Or should I download it in another way?

Thanks!,

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

You add

[takhis]
Server = ftp://takhis.net/arch

To your pacman.conf. Also, you *must* comment out the stuff for the Community repo in there the first time you install E17 - there's E17 stuff with the same groupnames in Community, and that will mess you up. You can turn the Community repo back on later, but the first time it has to be off, as I once found out rather unpleasantly.

BTW, reverie, could you include e17genmenu? It's a small thing, but it vastly improves E17's usability.

Maybe if you just move [community] after [takhis] you won't have this problem. (the first found, the first installed)

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Actually, I think you're right... With fouinix's repo the package names were different, but they're the same here, so it shouldn't be a problem. I think.

Those changes are breakages. I'll update in a few days regardless, as I'm a little impatient myself, and this _is_ cvs wink - BUT, be warned, the following things are currently broken: Themes, backgrounds, menus, the following modules; {calendar, cpu, eloquence, engage, devian, evolume, wlan}.

That being said, there's quite a bit of cvs activity atm, so I hope most things will be fixed when I update.

Visit http://www.get-e.org/ for news.

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

mOLOk & reverie big_smile

Is there anything to do before upgrading from latest fouiny packages, like removing some or all of them ?
I'm checking that right know anyway ; hope it won't break & will recognize my e-cvs configu like menus, eap & (nic!) )backgrounds wink

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

It should continue where fouiny left off quite fine, but a lot of things have changed in E lately. Your old eaps should work, probably not the menus, fortunately there's a Configuration/Applications where you can fix up the rest now, supports fd.o menus and all. You'll also need new themes and backgrounds from http://www.get-e.org/, you'll find a script for re-generating your own backgrounds here: http://devilhorns.us/files/fix_e_bgs. Oh, and a handful of modules are gone (I miss the calendar), but most things are back in now.

I just added exhibit-cvs, ephoto-cvs, emphasis-cvs, estickies-cvs and extrackt-cvs to the repo. Now that most breakage is done with (I hope) you can expect weekly updates again.

Enjoy smile

Oh, and if you haven't updated in a while, it might be prudent to wipe ~/.e ):

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Have moved to takhis repo.

The alt+esc is very usefull. But lately it has become very slow. It takes a long time from I enter a letter, until the different programs appear. And it doesent matter how many programs there is to choose from.

Any ideas?

It's because of the top-part which shows the applications it finds in the menus. The E guys recently switched from .eap to freedesktops .order, but they haven't written any proper caching code for it yet, they are working on it though...

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Hey reverie, I did an uninstall and then a reinstall to 20061004 and I no longer have any icons!  Is this an error in CVS or is it an issue with my config?

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

No, it's because they switched from .eap to freedesktop's .order, you need to redo the icons... or just hit "regenerate applications menu" in configuration/applications and drag'n drop the ones you want to the ibar. Sorry.

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

Thanks reverie.  It didn't quite work for me coz each time I started e up the icons would reset.  I'll wait for a later build I think

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

reverie thank you very much
I didn't see your explanations and links here but managed to update e17 + most of my personal configuration easilly thanks to the new enlightenment config panel smile
I do confirm about the actual lack of caching for .desktop files (icons) even on a very decent computer

Note that e17-cvs gives priority to .desktop files over .eap but one can still use its own .eap if he edits ~/.e/e/.../.order

All in one, latest e17-cvs from you guys is very usable & stable (had a single crash in a months that is 12H x 30).
Thank Enlightenment team & you for that big_smile

Re: E17 Packing Volunteer

How is e17-cvs today ?
I just want to quit gnome .. even if it is really nice with Beryl and great themes of Cimi.
but It is taking a lot of CPU..

Is it simple to set a GTK theme for e17 without gnome libs ?

Tell me why E17 is great ?
