Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Just to add to the confusion:

+config REALTIME_CAPABILITIES
+    tristate "Real-Time LSM (Obsolete)"
+    depends on SECURITY && EXPERIMENTAL
+    help
+      This is an obsolete LSM - use newer PAM and rt-limites
+      to manage your real-time apps.
+
+      If you are unsure how to answer this question, answer N.

I believe realtime-lsm is the old way to grant users rt privileges and is now depreciated for PAM/rlimits method. It has nothing to do with lowering latency.

Here is what needs to be used:

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Hosed again. Updated and jack freezes the system if my delta 1010 soundcard in in a pci slot. lspci shows only the envy24 chipset and not the onboard one too. I am edging closed and closer to the end of my arch days.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

what did you update?
I just did an update, build Ardour with vst support and all is fine.
I too have the ice-1712 chip and no issues.
UbuntuStudio was just released today. The rt kernel rocks but I still am faithful to Arch so I run both.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

I'm testing the viper package right now, no realtime...  I'll try to see if i can get the patch working later on, either way, it's pretty nice...

dunno why the packager left the real-time patch out. Maybe Arch is not built for RT....

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Sorry, the realtime-lsm is in http://vipernicus.org/files/patches/2.6 … viper1.bz2

I've just talked to pierluigi and he just haven't enabled it by default, it should be enabled and uploaded in to aur at this moment, so enjoy smile

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Anyone interested in setting up a dedicated audio site for archlinux? maybe we can get a sub-domain or something. If there is any interest, and if it's needed id be glad to provide server-space...

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

all I did was install the kernel. Maybe it's because my setup is simple. I don't use that many apps per session. I run Ardour with vst, Hydrogen, seq24 for some synth, and that's it. hdparm may be helpful.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Maybe all of the ubuntu studio programs could be added to this repo?

check these out and tell me if these are usefull apps: (I know maybe 70% of these are already in the repos)

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ubunt … plications

I bet if you get the optimized kernel working arch beats ubuntustudio hands down, seems many of the programs are even 386 only... smile

Btw are there any special tweaks in ubuntustudio?

Mikko777, all those apps rock. I've running Ubuntu Studio on another drive. We need those apps in the Proaudio repo.

Re: ProAudio repository for Arch users

Hey thanks.
No I don't have my repo; I uploaded my PKBUILDs to AUR. Since there are some of them which can't be in binary form publicly due to the license issue, AUR is the best place to share. Because I quited my studio job several years ago(being a system programmer since then), I don't play with these apps that much as before. Though I don't have much time for these apps now, I am still very interested in the development of profession audio in the open source community, and periodically check them out by compiling from the source. Recently I uploaded some pro audio packages to AUR, which are actually the cleanup of my privately-used PKGBUILDs(I always use pacman to do the install/uninstall) and hope that someone will enjoy. It seems that it does smile
