Re: The Compiz Topic

You should add lines:

[danimoth]
Server = http://jjdanimoth.altervista.org/arch/i686

to your /etc/pacman.conf, and then just do pacman -Syu

You should put these lines above community repo, otherwise pacman won't see the new packages.

Edit: just found problem with new compiz: I can't assign key combinations with mouse roll to commands - I used to use ctrl+mouse roll to turn volume up and down, now I can't set it. Is it possible with compiz 0.7?

I have nvidia Ti 4600, athlon xp 1800+ and 512Ram. But i don't think that it's the resources low.
I have everything under Vsync and monitor is at 60Hz. Glxgears gives 60fps no matter what (compiz disabled or enabled).
With compiz enabled and
indirect rendering: Smoothness everywere, but problems with tearing (video and windows). FPS at 60 no matter what i do.
direct rendering: Not smooth, no problems with tearing. FPS is idle around 30 (half the 60) and when i move a window for example it goes down
direct rendering and loose binding: Things are better than direct rendering alone but again, things aren't as smooth as indirect rendering, tearing exists and FPS is at 30 (somewhat stable).
A good "benchmark" method is to run glxgears everytime when changin these options and move it around the screen while watching how it reacts.

Without vsync, i see frame rates go up to 200+, with direct and indirect rendering, but it's not smooth due to taking as much cpu and gpu possible to achieve high frame rate. So i think it's not a problem with hardware not being able to achieve high FPS but something with compiz. And it's interesting that with direct rendering the maximum of FPS is 30, exact the half of 60...

Anyway, this has nothing to do with the new version Danimoth built. I had those issues before as well.

Re: The Compiz Topic

Indirect rendering eats my cpu too, that's why I use direct rendering (and loose bindings) with this config I get 60fps idle, and down to 20fps with may windows and transparent rotating cube - but this is still fine for me, low fps is visible, but it doesn't decrease usability. I think Danimoth's version is a bit faster than 0.6 anyway.

we want community!

well... I would rather wait for the version that allows assigning mouse roll to commands.

Re: The Compiz Topic

There is another issue, with Desktop Zoom. Once you have iniated you cannot deactivate it. Mouse wheel keeps zooming and unzooming without anything else pressed, and keyboard mulfuntions. It's like Super button cannot get released. Please verify this.

Senjin, i lookup up more deeply what you said and you are right. Direct rendering and loose binding is the best choice and needs the least cpu cycles. But in my case fps achieved is always half the refresh rate of my screen. When i uncheck compiz vsync, there is smoothness but tearing is back mad

Re: The Compiz Topic

I noticed another problem with Desktop Zoom: Sometimes when I zoom and move the mouse, the cursor goes for example to the top of the screen, or top-left corner - whichever direction I move the mouse.

On the other hand noticed some bug with epiphany is fixed, so the screen no longer blinks when the mouse is over tab bar.

capthookb: I don't get the errors, you posted except of
A handler is already registered for the path starting with path[0] = "org"
which was in 0.6 too.

Seems that there aren't problems in the packaging..

So, keep pacman synced, I will move compiz-* in community soon.

Re: The Compiz Topic

Pacman tells me that libcompizconfig-0.7.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted.
Would it be possible by any chance to compile kde4-window-decorator ?

Re: The Compiz Topic

After one day of testing everything seems ok.

Update from 0.7.2 to 0.7.4 hasn't reseted the settings as update 0.6 -> 0.7.2 have.

Issues with Desktop Zoom and with command key bindings remain unfixed.

Re: The Compiz Topic

The issue I've posted above: sometimes mouse cursor runs to top-left corner when I try to move it while I move it...

I use "Enhanced Zoom Desktop" plugin to be exact. I haven't checked "Zoom Desktop", and I don't have "Desktop Zoom" at all plugin... it's all confusing.... hmm

Re: The Compiz Topic

Hi,
I installed 0.7.4 on i386 and there's one thing that happened twice already. I run KDE with a few Superkaramba applets, so I start compiz-fusion manually afrer all applets are up and running. It happened to me twice already that after I started compiz-fusion, all applets and the KDE kicker disappeared. They were there because if I put the mouse pointer in the place they should have been and click, I could start applications that were on the kicker.
I'm going to test it a bit more later today.

Cheers

waldek

It is an upstream bug.. I can't do nothing.

Re: The Compiz Topic

I noticed the problems (I mentioned above) with "enhanced zoom desktop" stop, when I turn off "move using mouse" option in "mouse behaviour" section... I couldn't find any information about it on compiz-fusion forums... anyway it's ok now.
