Could be a dbus issue... see my XFCE4 installation guide earlier in the thread, and you'll see the kind of .xinitrc syntax you need.

I'm also having that menu-problem and I'm running Gnome and GDM, which then launches fusion-icon on login. I haven't had any dbus-problems generally which makes me wonder if that really is the problem.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Well, why not view the stderror/stdout output? Start the X server manually from a TTY and switch to see what output there is.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I installed compiz-fusion using compiz-fusion-kde.tar.gz set of pkgbuilds.

The only issue I have so far is that maximized windows totally lack decorations, if I un-maximize them - they get their decorations back!

Anybody seen this/has any hints to try out?

UPD: Ok, this is a bug in kde-window-decorator, installed emerald and using emerald themes for now, works well.

Tres bizarre... try changing the theme in Emerald Theme Manager and see if it happens with everyone. I have a theme running atm that puts a decoration on every edge of each window, but only the top edge decoration is visible when the window is maximised.. it's possible it's a setting specific to your theme?

Figured that this is a specific bug in kde-window-decorator, switching to emerald fixed it.

This did not fix my issue, I also noticed that it's not just a menu issue, it happens with any window, menu or application start, they all are delayed for about 5 seconds. Thanks for the help though, I will continue to look into this.

I had the same problem, and it was dbus for me, so that was my best guess.

Start your Xserver from a TTY manually, as I suggested earlier, and see what errors/warnings are output.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I dont know if this was mentioned before, but when i start fusion-icon in kdemod ... in the system tray where the compiz-icon is sapposed to be, is blank, but if I right click the blank area ill see the options.

Sorry it sounds so confusing ... what I am trying to say is there is no Tray Icon showen but the menu exists where the icon should be.

Any ideas?

Just tried to install compiz on a 32 bit system, and the db.tar.gz in the repo seems corrupt/incomplete. 64 bit is fine.

It's not in one of the grouped packages, but I'll create a pkgbuild for it when I update packages today.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Updated packages. I've updated the compiz-git to reflect Danimoth's updated pkgbuild in aur (it's his pkgbuild). So now it shouldn't require as many gnome deps.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

So I decided to give this a try, I followed the wiki.. however it doesn't seem to work. If I follow the guide earlier in the topic for XFCE I get no window decorations at all. And if I run XFCE normally, like I usually do and do a "fusion-icon" I get the following output..

[danny@ruby ~]$ fusion-icon
* Using the GTK Interface
Backend     : ini
Integration : true
Profile     : default
Adding plugin decoration (decoration)
Initializing decoration options...done
* Searching for installed applications...
/usr/bin/ccsm
/usr/bin/compiz
/usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator
/usr/bin/kde-window-decorator
/usr/bin/emerald
/usr/bin/metacity
/usr/bin/xfwm4
* Decorator "" is invalid.
... choosing emerald --replace as default decorator
* nvidia found, exporting: __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"
* Executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
compiz (core) - Fatal: No composite extension

Any suggestions?

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

You don't have the composite extension. Add this to the end of your xorg.conf:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

By saying the WM doesn't have decorations anymore, I'm taking it that compiz is working, but no decorations are being drawn. Try starting emerald or gtk-window-decorator or kde-window-decorator with --replace in a console, like emerald --replace.

Post any errors.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

well, when i run fusion-icon i get this output in terminal:

* Using the Qt4 Interface
Backend     : ini
Integration : true
Profile     : default
Adding plugin decoration (decoration)
Initializing decoration options...done
* Searching for installed applications...
/usr/bin/ccsm
/usr/bin/compiz
/usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator
/usr/bin/kde-window-decorator
/usr/bin/emerald
/usr/bin/metacity
/opt/kde/bin/kwin
* kde session
* fglrx found, exporting: LD_PRELOAD=/opt/mesa-xgl/lib/libGL.so.1.2
* Active WM is already running
* switching to compiz ...
* Executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

Now, running compiz directely :

LD_PRELOAD=/opt/mesa-xgl/lib/libGL.so.1 compiz --replace &
emerald --replace

that's it or i'm doing wrong?
Well, my WM still not drawing frames and don't get any output from the comands above.

I'm using fglrx version 8.36.2-2
XGL from danimoth repo (the only one which run whith wine. The other version crash the X when i start wine, don't know why)

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

hey guys, i'm having a weird problem.  When I try to start CCSM, I get this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/use/bin/ccsm", line 39, in <module>
import ccm
ImportError: No module named ccm

Any idea why I would be receiving this error?

I installed everything through AUR (nothing worked downloading from repo).  My installed package list is as such:

local/ccsm-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compizconfig Settings Manager in Python
local/compiz-bcop-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compiz option code generator
local/compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compiz Fusion Main plugins
local/compiz-fusion-plugins-main-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compiz Fusion Main plugins
local/compiz-git 20070721-1
    Composite and window manager
local/compizconfig-python-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compizconfig bindings for python
local/fusion-icon-git 20070706-2 (compiz-fusion)
    Simple tray icon for compiz
local/libcompizconfig-git 20070706-1 (compiz-fusion)
    Compiz configuration system library

I had Compiz working on here, but it crashed after I installed taskbar-compiz.  The whole thing seemed hosed, so I uninstalled, removed all configs, and completely reinstalled.  I seem to recall having this problem before as well, but I can't remember how I fixed it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
