Re: [FIXED] Wireless doesn't autostart after -Syu...WPA authent. problem?

well tpowa provided new kernel and wireless modules. This seems to work (not many tests though) in my case (ipw3945), but it would be great if users with different cards would try and see if problem is really resolved.

tpowa's comments here:

repository information where you can download new kernel/wireless modules included in his post (see bug description)

Re: [FIXED] Wireless doesn't autostart after -Syu...WPA authent. problem?

As advised by tpowa (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8745), I upgraded kernel26 (2.6.23.8-1 -> 2.6.23.9-1) and ndiswrapper (1.49-3 -> 1.49-4) from testing. That didn't make any major difference.  My system still went through dozens of WPA-PSK (TKIP) authentication attempts (failing at key negotiation?) and multiple timeouts before authentication finally succeeded.

I then installed wicd 1.3.1-10 [extra] and added wicd to the daemons array.  I also commented out NET_PROFILES=(....) in rc.conf, relying entirely on wicd to set up the wlan0 and eth0 interfaces (BTW, in the Wicd Manager Preferences, I picked wext as the WPA Supplicant driver - the same setting I had used in network profiles).

My rc.conf now looks like this (no INTERFACES, gateway, ROUTES, NET_Profiles; everything is set up through Wicd):

MODULES=(ndiswrapper capability sg acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_performance cpufreq_powersave)
HOSTNAME="RFDellLT"
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal cpufreq portmap wicd @nfslock @nfsd @netfs sshd @crond cups alsa openntpd privoxy)

With these changes, wlan0 now is brought up automatically again at bootup and works just fine.
