Re: Gnome 2.22.0

I' trying to install the new Gnome from Cimi's repo. Do i have to enable testing repo also? Because i get this:

error: cannot resolve "gcc-libs>=4.3.0", a dependency of "cairomm"

so i would need newer version of gcc-libs whic, I guess, is in testing?

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

with testing below core and extra in pacman.conf, run
pacman -S testing/gnome
to get gnome from testing but nothing else
although you do get the message local gnome is newer than extra but you already know that

A good and a bad news.
The good news is that was a problem in my build, now fixed.
The ugly thing is that I haven't changed the -version of the package (to avoid mistakes between official packages), so you need to MANUALLY REMOVE libgweather from the cache, sync pacman, reinstall it.

Next time you can use 1.1 as pkgrel: it will upgrade from the old package and in case your repository is replaced by official packages, users can see their installed package is newer than the one in extra, or in case of a real upgrade, there's an upgrade to -2 instead.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

In the recent gnome releases, there's been the gstreamer codec installation thing in totem if you try to play something but don't have the codec.
On the gnome sites, it says support for this is done by your distro
Anyone know what work it needs to implement in the gnome arch packages? Is it a simple matter of putting what the command would be for each gstreamer package or is it deeper?
I think it would be nice if we could take advantage of this gnome feature...

YAY!, at last, real transparency effect in all the desktop,it is nicely integrated. I must tell you guys, GNOME 2.22 is a great release, rock solid as always, doesn't get in the way of the user, and a very easy to use compositing manager coded into metacity. Just click compositing manager in gconf > apps > metacity, and there you have it. Well, it isn't the most advanced, but is a step in the right direction.

the last time I enabled the metacity compositing manager, everything turned completely blue

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

Issuing a:

pacman -Qg gnome

produces some packages.

Two of them do not exist in testing.

So, picking up the rest from testing, would that be fine for a complete Gnome 2.22?

pacman -Sw testing/epiphany testing/gnome-applets testing/gnome-backgrounds testing/gnome-control-center testing/gnome-desktop testing/gnome-icon-theme testing/gnome-media testing/gnome-panel testing/gnome-session testing/gnome-themes testing/gnome2-user-docs testing/libgail-gnome testing/metacity testing/nautilus testing/yelp

I still have testing placed last in pacman.conf.

Architecture is x86_64.

PS: I assume I would have to rebuild Compiz-Fusion-git afterwards.

Thanks Noneus, I see now, it's in AUR. When 2.22.0 arrives in core, shouldn't this package be available in a non-aur repository too?

still some package missing?

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

I've had to do a

#ln -s /usr/lib/libsoup-2.4.so /usr/lib/libsoup-2.2.so.8
#rm -r /usr/lib/rhytmbox/plugins/daap

To make rhytmbox works.

Metacity compositing is somewaht buggy.

I can't get the youtube totem plugin to work:

"ffdemux_flv: Element doesn't implement handling of this stream. Please file a bug."

But the other changes where good!

Symlinking libraries like that is not recommended. The proper way to fix error like that is to rebuild the package against the newest libraries. I've submitted a bug report.

I did the above.

The panel would not load at all, producing many windows with OAIFD errors that I could hardly note down because the windows disappeared immediately. So I ended up with a completely unusuable desktop. Fortunately I had done a full backup before.

The same behavior occurs even if I logon with a new user.

I also tried both approaches (same user & new user) with all third-party panel applets (e.g. computer-temp, gcdemu) removed, before I made the update. Nothing changed.

Just read the first pages of the thread, you have to enable testing and Cimis Repository and upgrade gnome to current version.
Then you need python-gdata package for the youtube plugin to work. That one is on AUR.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

Cimis packages worked great. There's some minor annoyances with the new gnome (probably becasue of GVFS) such as; nautilus-open-terminal doesn't work, and nautilus-gksu is strangely absent from the repo as of now.
*not* that it's related to the quality of the builds, but did anyone notice that samba shares gets mounted much like a pen drive, and thus invade the desktop every time one browses a share. i'd rather see the old behaviour of samba shares from gnome-vfs in that regard. If i need a shortcut, i'll bookmark it myself gawddamnit! smile

Thank you for the suggestion.

I also took libtool and gcc from testing in order to rebuild compiz-fusion-git.

Anything else I should get from testing?

im hoping not boring somebody..i would just like to ask how is the gnome building for i686 official going?
