Arch's official language

Just happened to request a page when the forums were down, then refreshed the page a couple minutes later and Arch had gone German.

Since all the top-level discussion was done on the private mailing list, could we get some sort of feel for what all this language switch is going to entail by way of the website/forums/distro itself? I'm sure there are a few English-only speakers out there who'd like to know exactly what this change is going to mean for them.

As well, I'm curious as to the reasoning behind the switch -- a quick justification would be nice. Why couldn't a simple language pack for the forums be used? The language barrier is hardly a new problem.

Thanks. Keep Arch rolling.

Re: Arch's official language

For me is cool, just another excuse to learn a new language, so here we go, German is going to be added to my list of languages: Spanish, English, Ruby and now, German. big_smile

Update: Is pretty hard for me to know what I'm clicking, can April Fools pass a bit faster? lol

Another Update: The moderators are awesome

Just one more update: Is bad when moderators own you.

I hope last update: quit messing with my threads.

Re: Arch's official language

It's a change for the better. German is a better language than English anyway, I've been studying it for this very purpose!

Re: Arch's official language

what? i dont think this is a good idea at all! english is the main computers language, why do you want everything to be in german? this will only make archlinux less atractive for users.

i dont even know what i am pressing. isnt there a www.arch.us ? what about pacman, you'r gonna make it german too? and AUR?

Re: Arch's official language

Darn...  my use of english is poor enough, and that is my first language!  I only know enough German to guess at what I am ordering of menus.  Probably not much use for mushrooms on Arch!

Re: Arch's official language

Allan: Don't worry. German is the simplest language ever. You can learn it within a few days.

Ich bin froh, daß wir das nach langer Diskussion endlich umsetzen werden. Da die meisten eh Deutsch sprechen ist es albern sich auf Englisch zu unterhalten.
