Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

It is checked. The script loads the most recent mirrorlist from the main database (not the package). See https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus

The presence of your name in the bug report asking to add them hinted at that, yes wink.

Naive and underqualified as I was I even had a chat at Kangaroot when they were hiring a while ago tongue. Needless to say my amateur Linux knowledge didn't stand the test...

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

Hiya,

unixheads has completely dropped Arch so it can be removed from the mirror check list:

unixheads wrote:

In addition, this situation forced us to audit what we are mirroring. Things like Archlinux are going to get moved off as the Kernel.org mirror has started mirroring them. We are both on ISC's network, and they are better equipped to handle the larger bursts of traffic.

Drag. They were the best mirror that I've ever found.

Any alternatives to gigenet? It was syncing with MB's and I now need a performant one which is somewhere near St. Louis?

Should I report this anywhere?

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

Since three days the kernel.org mirror(s?) behave very strangely on my installations. On every other "pacman -Syyu" I get either

warning: licenses: local (2.6-1) is newer than core (2.5-1)

or:

warning: libpciaccess: local (0.11.0-1) is newer than extra (0.10.9-1)
warning: lm_sensors: local (3.1.2-3) is newer than extra (3.1.2-1)
warning: mobile-broadband-provider-info: local (20100510-1) is newer than extra (0.20100301-1)
warning: mplayer: local (31147-1) is newer than extra (31040-1)
warning: nss: local (3.12.6-2) is newer than extra (3.12.6-1)
warning: upower: local (0.9.3-1) is newer than extra (0.9.2-2)
warning: vlc: local (1.0.6-2) is newer than extra (1.0.6-1)

However, kernel.org is the ONLY mirror in my pacman.d/mirrorlist.

$ grep -v ^# /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
Server = http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64

So I definitely got the newer local packages from the same server(s). And why is there alternation between the two sets of warnings?

I guess these are several servers, maybe out of sync -- but for three days?

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

mirrors.kernel.org is not a single server. it has different addresses. maybe one of the servers is behind.

$ host mirrors.kernel.org
mirrors.kernel.org is an alias for mirrors.geo.kernel.org.
mirrors.geo.kernel.org is an alias for mirrors.us.kernel.org.
mirrors.us.kernel.org has address 204.152.191.39
mirrors.us.kernel.org has address 149.20.20.135

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

Thanks a lot for the fast reply! OK, so I'll just wait.
In my case it's these two servers (which explains the alternation mentioned):

$ host mirrors.kernel.org
mirrors.kernel.org is an alias for mirrors.geo.kernel.org.
mirrors.geo.kernel.org is an alias for mirrors.eu.kernel.org.
mirrors.eu.kernel.org has address 130.239.17.6
mirrors.eu.kernel.org has address 199.6.1.174

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

because they want to be like that. to offer a rollback solution. personally i dislike the idea since this server is a tier 1 and because of that no other server can sync from them

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

It is not really necessary to tell us which mirrors are down or outdated. We are already aware of these issues. It might take some time to be fixed as we have no direct influence on our mirrors.

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

There was only one mirror in Italy. There is not much we can do as long as mirror admins are not responding.

Re: [Announce] Mirror Status

Does anyone know the new URL, if any,  for
http://repo.archlinux.fr/x86_64  ?

The above is what I used to have as an additional Server/repo in pacman.conf, but after setting 'Architecture = auto', it installs a 32-bit version of 'redshift' instead of the 64-bit for my system. (Or at least I believe that is what has happened when I get the "wrong ELF class" error when trying to run redshift.)

Redshift is also available in AUR, but I need the French Arch repository for a couple of other apps as well ...

P.S.
I have tried altering the URL to
http://repo.archlinux.fr/$repo/os/$arch
and
http://archlinux.fr/$repo/os/$arch

but no can do.

Edit:

OK, never mind. Solution found.
