Re: August 2008 Screenshots

Really nice, though you are in an openbox session, I noticed there's a power applet in your xfce4-panel in the bottom right corner, is that only used for just logging out or can it do more? yikes

May I also see your .conkyrc? cool

I do software development -- which doesn't necessarily need a mouse -- but I also do 3D modeling/animation and graphics work -- which kinda does need a mouse.  I do understand your point, but I just don't think tiling WMs are for me.  But you gave lots of good info!

Well for managing windows, it's mouseless. However, the programs may still use the mouse as required. For example, I use the Gimp, and I use the mouse for that. Same with when I use avidemux and audacity. If I ever get into blender, I reckon I'd use the mouse in there a lot too.

For most things, I choose not to use the mouse. I use a lot of FF shortcut keys (tried vimperator, but didn't like it much) and have gotten rid of as many of the buttons as I can. I use vim text editor, mocp to play music, cdplay to play CD's, feh to view images and rtorrent. Currenlty I'm migrating to mutt, but I doubt I'll go back to a graphical MUA. I've gotten rid of the office suite in favor of LaTeX, csv with Sage and feh to replace each component of a typical Office Suite.

Re: August 2008 Screenshots

@Cosay:  Thank you, sir smile  I must say that your screenshots made me kinda want to play with evilwm...

@Acecero:  Thanks.  The logout thingy calls a zenity based script that can logout/shutdown/reboot/suspend/hibernate, basically the whole shebang.  It's kind of specific to my system, but if you want to have a look I posted it here.

Conkyrc uses quite a few scripts, and depends on two cron jobs -- I made a tarball which includes most of the stuff.  One of the cron jobs runs the (included) gmail1.py script every 5 minutes and saves the output to a file in /tmp which is then read by the somewhat misnamed check_updates.sh script (also included in the tarball).  The other cronjob basically runs pacman -Syuw every four hours (for both my main 64bit system and the 32bit chroot) so that the check_updates.sh script can check if there are updates ready to be installed with a simple pacman -Qu command.

I hope this sort of makes sense...

mrunion, Glad to see you enjoying flux! It's the bomb big_smile

On a flux note, I was browsing the Deviantart section of *box and saw one that struck my eye, but was for PekWM. Grabbed it and edited into flux theme:

Is that wallpaper a tile? If so could you share it, and are there anymore where that one came from perhaps?

True, but I believe that point was that someone didn't understand how to manage windows without titlebars, so I mentioned how it is done in Evilwm.

Having used KDEmod 4.1 for a while now, I finally went back to good ol' Xfce4. smile  Now, if only the KDE 4 tray icons didn't look so crap on my panel. hmm

What can be seen: Xfce4, including Xfwm4 (blended-gtk theme), Xfce4-panel (Vista-ish!  Or perhaps KDE 4-ish, depending on your point of view. smile  There's a nice article on this thing.).
