Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Hello There,

i am using the kernel26-one-dev with kms and fastboot enabled and it is great smile

But, with the 2.6.28 kernel26-one kernel based suspending and hibernating runs fine, with the 2.6.29 its pain and just not running, i have rebuild the one-dev with pm trace/debug support and get this magic lines:

[    5.201485]   Magic number: 5:142:441
[    5.201573] pcieport-driver 0000:00:1c.2: hash matches

i have tried any combination of module unloading etc. but nothing works for me.
When I run pm-suspend the system just ends to react but kernel reacts on caps-lock test.

any tips what i could try

Could you tell me how to enable fastboot please?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Add fastboot to the kernel line in your menu.lst.

Example

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda6 quiet ro fastboot

I couldn't get it working myself.  The root filesystem isn't given enough time to mount.

@MarCustomized: With stock kernel it isn't running for me, but with the initrdless kernels it is no problem.

@kaola_linux: Okay, I will check this.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Proposed Changes to the Wiki

These changes mainly have to do with the fact that the kernel, and Xorg have been updated, thus making many of these fixes obsolete/deprecated.

Update the Audio section. Most of it is unecessary as audio should work 100% via the standard alsa setup routine.  If you're going to show fixes for a specific kernel, in this case kernel-one, it should be properly noted in a seperate section.

Replace the Uvesafb section with a KMS setup process.  The Wiki currently says that Uvesafb can break suspend, which is ridiculous.  KMS seems to work fine in that regard.

The "setkeycodes" fixes don't appear to be necessary.  The Xmodmap fixes are still needed tho.

Add the use of the resume and the removal of the autodetect HOOK to the acpi/pm-utils section.

I was going to do these changes myself, but didn't want to fuck up the Wiki if no one agreed with me.

@kaola_linux, tested supertuxkart & that works fine here.

Could someone please try FreedroidRPG or Nexuiz? Both worked before new intel/mesa drivers & still do with vesa. I've only found one other unconfirmed report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/358403 neutral

Great, thx a lot, with the kernel from Teras repo i get the suspend/resume stuff running.

Will look into the kernel config of teras kernel next to see what he has done to get it runnning.

Are you referring to the latest build of tera's kernel? What DE are you using?:) Did it worked out of the box?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

yes got the latest package from his repos, and it run nearly out of the box.

I had some curious errors with X, but nopad kernel option solved this, and I am not sure that this is releated to the kernel change .. have moved my / around a bit to get ext4 on it.

DE?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

I plan on installing arch on my one today... but i'm a bit confused. I've read the wiki, this topic and the previous AA1 topic, and i can't really figure out what's the best route to go. Do i use the custom kernel or the stock one?

Stock works quite well and Tera's kernel on the other hand has some wifi led patch which makes the leds working when you are connected to a wifi network..:)

Wifi also works better with Tera's kernel!

Ok here comes the newb question...

Now if i use Tera's kernel, are there things i need to disable so they don't conflict? Or can i just follow the AA1 Arch wiki and as a final step use the custom kernel?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

@Apaulo: You could just put "!" before the following modules on your rc.conf if you have enabled them which are the ff:

r8169
acpi_cpufreq
ath5k

since they are already built into the kernel...The one you would likely be using is the pciehp...:) Hope that helps

update: just tried skype on my AA1 today and the mic works out of the box using Tera's kernel...^^ Haven't tried on the stock kernel yet...:)

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

After running the aao specific kernels I forgot about this problem & got a corrupted SD card. I couldn't recover it either, formatted as XFS & it's been fine so far.

Other than this, the stock kernel seems fine on the aao. smile

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Yeah, stock kernel works fine, but it runs a lot of modules that we don't need on the AAO. That's why there's a specific kernel for AAO.

so suspend works for xfs without getting corrupted sd card? so i guess its ext2/ext3 related?

More like XFS handled the cold unmount/remount or whatever more gracefully. It always does. I've always had problems with ext2/3 after a power outage or a full computer freeze induced by some buggy driver, while XFS would always mount with a nice, clean filesystem.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Did someone here successfully tried finit-arc? Both on the stock and custom kernels? I tend to have difficulty...:) I had only tried the first method (finit-arc), I haven't tried the second method yet..:)

Also with regards to enabling kms, do you have some random hangs on your AA1? This happend to me on both stock and custom kernels...:(
