I upgraded to amarok 2.1 today and when I start the player I get this kind of screen:
If I try to add an applet to the context view I just get a an green arrow and a red X
and when I press the arrow Amarok crashes (nothing happens when I press the X)
This with fresh profile and with an old one. I tried a SVN build from yesterday
and the official pkg from extra. Anyone else having the same problem?
KDEmod 4.2.3, Amarok 2.1

Did you install amarok or kdemod-amarok ( I don't remember exactly the kdemod package name)??

There isn't an Amarok 2.1 final pkg for 64-bit in the chakra project's repos.

You should not mix Chakra and Arch packages.

Kensai: I did try that already but the oddness still persists
Pierre: That's good to know but the problem is there with the official Arch pkg and with a recent SVN build...
EDIT: I did post to the Amarok's forums too let's see what they have to say

Sadly I've to say it.. amarok now sucks. Big Time(tm).
I've spent the last 2 hours trying to make it work but it always crash creating the collection..
this with 2.1 final and svn locally recompiled , just in case.
I deleted all previous config files, nothing...I've started with a fresh user , same same...
no way. I really don't understand such a huge regression, I become tired of that mysql thing, it's making problems since month...
ahh good ol' days with sqlite....maybe slow but never had problems.
Sorry for the rant :-(
for what it's worth it dies with

have you guys tried to delete the contents of /tmp or even /var/tmp?
find /var/tmp/ -name "*amarok*"
/var/tmp/kdecache-kris/kpc/amarok.data
/var/tmp/kdecache-kris/kpc/amarok.index

I realize on thing:
Is this only arch related? What if we have some problems with our mysql package?
we need a Dev here... or open a bug in our flyspray...

this error happens on kde 4.3... it should work with 4.2.4 - you can't blame amarok for you using unstable software

I installed the KDE 4.2 vanilla from extra and the problem is now solved, everything works

I have the same problem as Rehto, same configuration also with KDEmod and Amarok from extra.
But this worked fine with Amarok-2.0.96-1, and then it broke with Amarok-2.0.96-2 (and still broken with 2.1 final).
The diff between the PKGBUILDs from -1 and -2 is here:
http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/a … 9&r2=41358
I hope there is an easier solution than uninstalling KDEmod and installing KDE from extra...

Sometimes the solutions are too obvious i think... Amarok in extra is compiled against KDE 4.2.4 which means:
Just wait for 4.2.4 x86_64 in KDEmod.
I installed the KDE 4.2 vanilla from extra and the problem is now solved, everything works
And there you go, ignoring the obvious
You should not mix Chakra and Arch packages.
True for the "core" KDE packages, but it doesnt mean that you cannot install Arch extra packages (amarok, koffice, k3b etc) in KDEmod. I still have to find a package compiled against KDE in extra that does not work on the same KDEmod version. Seems it is time for a Wiki entry about this
When it comes to our extragear/playground packages: Those having a kdemod-* dependency should not be used with KDE in extra, but there are also plenty of packages without this limitation.
want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

I knew I jumped the gun but then again removing vanilla kde and installing kdemod
(yes I've done that a couple of times already) ain't that big of a deal
Thanks for the clarifying info funkyou, I need to get some sleep right about now

you're definitly right ...but trunk is not so 'unstable' this days as it's in hard freeze from some time, and that's what testing is meant for...
So I wonder if any amarok developer use kde trunk, it's strange for me that it's developed against a branch instead of trunk

I had the same problem. My solution was compile from abs, and now amarok works fine...I use kdemod 4.2.3 in arch 64.

Yes, I confirm that solved the problem

I have this problem too :\
Using KDEmod 4.3 rc from kdemod-testing and Amarok 2.1 from extra, or Amarok 2.1.1 compiled myself, or Amarok Amarok 2.1 svn from kdemod-playground, I always get the crash when scanning the music collection.
Has anyone found a solution for this? What can I do?
Edit: I get this backtrace http://pastebin.ca/1483552
