Re: kde-snapshot repo

When starting nepomuk I'm getting the following error:

[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] nepomukstorage(7386)/kdecore (KSycoca) KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from "/var/tmp/kdecache-neves/ksycoca4"
[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] (Soprano::PluginManager) found no soprano plugin at "/usr/lib/soprano/libsoprano_virtuosobackend.so"

NepomukServer(7382)/nepomuk (server) Nepomuk::ServiceController::slotServiceInitialized: Failed to initialize service "nepomukstorage"
NepomukServer(7382)/nepomuk (server) Nepomuk::ServiceController::stop: Stopping "nepomukstorage"
ProcessControl: Application '/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub' stopped unexpected (Process crashed)
Application '/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub' crashed. No restart!

I have checked and the file /usr/lib/soprano/libsoprano_virtuosobackend.so exist in the file system. What could be the problem?

EDIT: Problem solved, the package iodbc was missing. Maybe this dependecy is missing.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

nuovodna: yop, next update will come with 4.4.60 release.

For the next release I will move the repo once more to a new server and on that occasion I will rename the repo to "kde-snapshots". It is better then kde-4.X-unstable.

nevess: Thank you, I'll add iodbc to dependencies. I just run namcap on all packages so I'll revise all dependencies before next scheduled release.

Btw when any of you here will have nothing better to do, you can try to compile kdebindings. I failed roll big_smile

Re: kde-snapshot repo

I can't have any multimedia application (amarok, dragon player, kaffeine) to start, and I cannot open the Multimedia module in System Settings. My guess is that it's related to phonon. Any guess?

Re: kde-snapshot repo

I could imagine, that the multimedia problem is caused by pulseaudio. Have you installed pulseaudio? Up to now nobody complained, but I also can´t see my soundcards in system settings when KDE is compiled with pulseaudio. When compiled without pulse, everything works fine!

Re: kde-snapshot repo

I have installed pulseaudio because kde 4.4 needs pulseaudio to start (dont know why, it just complains that it doens't find a lib related to pulseaudio). with kde 4.3 I had sound with the phonon-xine backend.

nevess: launch some multimedia app from konsole and give us the output.

Question to all: Should I try to drop pulse support and replace it by old good xine (if it is possible) ?

Please, please, drop pulseaudio.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

When running kaffeine or amarok I get nothing, when running dragon player I only get the following message, but I think it doesn't help:

dragonplayer(7111)/kdecore (KSycoca) KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from "/var/tmp/kdecache-neves/ksycoca4"

Question to all: Should I try to drop pulse support and replace it by old good xine (if it is possible) ?

Shouldn't phonon hide the backends so we don't get this kind of problems?

Re: kde-snapshot repo

I´d vote against pulseaudio. I think Phonon should give you the choice of what backend you want to use. But compiled with pulseaudio support there are no devices shown, when removing pulseaudio prior to compiling KDE everything works as expected. I have no idea, why it is this way, that´s just what I figured out here.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

Since the last upgrade I can't start kmail and ktorrent anymore.

Both of them crash with a message like:

$ ktorrent
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
  what():  std::bad_alloc
<unknown program name>(3830)/: Communication problem with "ktorrent" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

KCrash: Application 'ktorrent' crashing...
sock_file=/home/laochailan/.kde4/socket-desktop/kdeinit4__0

Question to all: Should I try to drop pulse support and replace it by old good xine (if it is possible) ?

I'm against pulseaudio, too.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

laochailan: weird, both, kmail and ktorrent work well for me. I'd guess it will be corrupted installation - but I can't say for sure what packages could be corrupted. Also, I read somewhere that similar kind of error (that from glibc) could be caused by low memory (?)

Packages without that wicked pulseaudio are being uploaded atm. Xine backend works pretty well - like in the old times.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

Kmail and ktorrent are also working fine here.

I have upgraded the following packages and I still have the same problem with phonon.

[2010-01-09 11:56] upgraded kdebase-workspace (4.3.90svn1070743-1 -> 4.3.90svn1070743-3)
[2010-01-09 11:56] upgraded kdesupport-akonadi (4.3.90svn1070743-1 -> 4.3.90svn1070743-2)
[2010-01-09 11:56] upgraded kdesupport-oscaf (4.3.90svn1070743-1 -> 4.3.90svn1070743-2)
[2010-01-09 11:56] upgraded kdesupport-phonon (4.3.90svn1070743-1 -> 4.3.90svn1070743-2)
[2010-01-09 11:56] upgraded kdesupport-soprano (4.3.90svn1070743-1 -> 4.3.90svn1070743-2)

And I still need to have pulseaudio installed in order to start kde (i'm using i686).

I have another problem, when i try to open the printer module in System settings I get the following error (when runing from the console):

Re: kde-snapshot repo

nevess: Strange...I only uninstalled pulseaudio, set Xine as default backend and everything works (using ALSA)....ad systemsettings: this is caused by kdebindings. You have currently installed stable kdebidings from [extra] instead of kdebidings from my repo - the reason is that in my repo, kdebidings does not exist :-) I will try something but no promises...

Which package of kdebindings should I have installed, from extra or from your repository (if any)?

Re: kde-snapshot repo

The problem was that I used old versions of kernel26/kernel-headers and the stuff depending on them, which propably wasn't a good idea. After upgrading everything was ok.

And I still need to have pulseaudio installed in order to start kde (i'm using i686).

I can confirm this.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

nevess: you should have kdebindings from [kde-4.4-unstable]. But I was unable to build it so...for now you are screwed :-) I'm working on it now..

laochailan,nevess: AAAAAAA!!! My fault...I forgot to uninstall pulseaudio from i686 build chroot before recompiling Phonon...I uploaded fixed version. Can you confirm it works now?

Thank ProgDan, I have phonon working, that already good. I have no hurry for the printer config right now, but I think it should be fixed in the future.

Great job with this repo.

Phonon is now working without pulseaudio.

But there is another problem. It seems that there is no replacement for extra/konq-plugins in your repo. I had to remove it in order to get flash working but now I have no plugins for konqueror. There are also some protocols like "sftp:" missing, which may be provided by this package.

Try to start plasma-desktop from a console and search for errors in the output.
