Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

I just installed the flash plugin and java.  Flash objects show up fine in firefox but they are unresponsive to mouse clicks (they are responsive to mouse overs though).  I'm also getting loads of firefox XID collision errors but after search the forum, I think this is a known bug and unrelated to the issue at hand.  Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

Found this bug report describing the exact same issue on chromium: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issue … l?id=20654
Also a bug report from Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/410407

Seems to be a common issue?  No real fixes reported though.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

This caused by the updating of GTK2.18.

we have to wait next flash release to fix this problem.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

I just want to point out a workaround that was posted on niblet's linke:

It appears that the following actions will successfully trigger a 'click' response:
1. Move the mouse pointer out of the Flash player controls.
2. Hold button1 down, and move the mouse pointer onto the control to be clicked.
3. Release and immediately click on the said control.

Works for me.  Running chromium in openbox.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

I experienced this also in kdemod and chromium. But the problem completely disappeared after I upgraded to new intel driver, xorg-server and mesa. I think I read somewhere that it was a bug in the Intel driver. These packages are currently in testing. If you have an intel graphics card, you might wanna try this.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

Also affected, on Midori and Firefox.  I hear you can use Shift+click as well, or click in the Flash object and use Tab+Enter to hit buttons.

New note:  This does not occur with openbox as the window manager on my system.  Only with fluxbox so far.

Thanks, I was using Fluxbox, switched to Gnome and it did help.

Happens for me with Openbox sad  However the click-hold-unclick workaround works for me.

The above workaround didn't work for me (firefox in fluxbox), but another one from the chromium bug report did:

If you middle click while the mouse cursor is on the flash and hold it, left clicking works (until you release the middle mouse button).

I switched from fluxbox to openbox in debian after reading this post, it works.

Im disappointed that this is a fluxbox specific bug. Ive used fluxbox for a long time..... bummer.

Thanks to the list for pointing out this bug.

I have this problem too. I tried the niblet trick and that works. But it's a bit annoying...
I'm using the fvwm window manager. 2.5 testing version...

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

i use the next "solution"
when a window with flash unresponsive to clicks simply minimize and mazimize the window, now flash works normally

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

I'm another Fluxbox user with the same problem... perfect. I can't change my favorite window manager just because of this! sad

Edit: Apparently this is caused by upgrading from GTK 2.16 to  GTK 2.18. Either downgrade or right click in the flash window and double click. (also works for dragging).

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

Check the wiki for downgrading packages, megajosh2.

Here's a hint (gtk2-2.16.5-1):

i686 users should try the Flash 10.1 beta; it might fix the problems.

Re: Flash objects unresponsive to mouse clicks in firefox

Nope it doesn't! and to make matters worse it crashes left and right. I had to downgrade back to what's in the Repos because of how unstable it was. Hopefully that's strictly a beta release and not a RC.

Just thought I would share my results about the Flash 10.1 beta .

The middle-mouse trick works for me BTW.

God! the upstream bugs lately have been terrible for some programs.  I think Ranguvar knows what I mean there.

In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected.
