Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@willxtreme and sHyLoCk

I tried today Archbang in VM and it was really fast. As I said I like this project a lot.

Can I make my humble suggestions? First of all, let me assume my ideas; I think that AB (Archbang) should look polish, simple and professional.

1)I find the mouse cursor and the fonts strange and to be honest they give a funny impression of AB. Could we insert a normal mouse and normal fonts? The fonts make a little difficult also to read text.

2) The weather script is practical but not for everyone. Could we leave that option out? If we have internet, we can access weather through internet.

3) Can we include some tutorials, like the Arch Linux handbook?

Great job to all.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

This is great work.  Downloaded the 64 bit version and put it on a USB key, works a treat. Is there a link on how to implement the persistence feature? Checked the wiki but I didn't see it. I second the comment on the fonts, hard for me to read. Can't wait for the installer. I actually installed larch 5 on Archbang 1.04 and tried to install it, but it didn't work for me.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Not sure about including the handbook, will have to ask Dusty about it. Maybe include the package "arch-wiki-docs" ? I don't know how updated it is though!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

The reason for having docs included would be if you had no network connection....

Handbook is such a general term, what information do you include that is not already widely available ?

Installer is the thing I want to test and work on, are you going for net install? or transfer Archbang to partitioned drive? How far are you going to hold the hand of the user? Very very concerned about keeping to the Arch way.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@Mr.G

Yep. Anyway, got it working for now.

Shall I upload a small [with minimal set of packages] testing ISO or just the scripts?
I think I'll upload a testing ISO as the scripts will have to be placed properly. smile

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@ People with intel

If you are facing kms issues please let us know!! Neither will or me use intel graphics!! We can't do testing in all sorts of hardware!
All bug-reports and feedbacks should come in this thread and not emails, so that everyone can see and try to provide solutions if possible!
Created a "possible" fix [again don't know if it will work as I can't test it!] will include that with AB2.00-beta/RC build so that you can test yourself.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Posting from 1.05 now on nvidia 7800GT; automatically detected and loaded driver 'nvidia':

[live@live ~]$ lsmod | grep nv
nvidia 8795767 28
i2c_core 15369 2 nvidia,i2c_i801
agpgart 23331 2 nvidia,intel_agp

Sweet job...especially since the nv and nouveau drivers crash with this card. wink

Im partial to the GNOME-Colors icons.

If space is a problem then only include the Brave (blue) icons.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Its a question of it startx fails... how do check for that?

Can you not add a vega safe graf mode in grub so can be selected at startup?

That could also apply to run from ram too etc etc etc...

Sorry just my2c

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Some ideas...

Perhaps add an Openbox menu option like "Use safe video driver" which runs a script that sets vesa. This would be useful if Xorg is up but there are some performance/weirdness issues.

If startx completely fails and it can be detected (exit codes?) then run that same script before trying startx again.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Wish to try the installer into a CF flash card mounted with a sata2CF adapter.

Will the installer burp when it sees a Flash drive instead of a conventional hdd?

How much install space is required in the hdd (and/or flash device)?
