Wow- ncdu, xdiskusage, and gdmap are all great.  Didn't try treeview.  I like the way ncdu works across ssh... very handy.  gdmap is similar to Filelight although I miss the label on the squares, so I think I prefer xdiskusage.  I'm going to leave all in there and see which I use.

However I haven't found something that can replace isobuster (data recovery from cd/dvd).

Re geany - very nice editor!  I think that will be my pick.  Bluefish is also good but I had a few issues with its highlighting and key usage.  I didn't think I would use geany until I found the dark themes for it - how anyone can stand all that glaring white is beyond me.

One question for those who use it...  The help says

To place a mark on a line, either left-mouse-click in the left margin of the editor window, or else use Ctrl-m. Either way, this will produce a small green plus symbol in the margin. You can have as many marks in a document as you like. Click again (or use Ctrl-m again) to remove the bookmark.

Left-clicking anywhere on that margin does nothing for me (nor does any kind of clicking produce a mark).  Ctrl-m adds a red plus marker rather than a green one.  If this behavior normal?

Now I just want to see if I can change the color of the folding mark line - currently a bright white line along the left margin.

LOL - I switched more or less from IgnorantGuru's setup to KDE, when 4.4 came out ... even think it's a good think they got Akonadi and Nepomuk to work, finally.

Anyways, the difference in daily life is much smaller than I had expected, it's quite amazing what can be done with lightweight apps and DE's nowadays. So the good news in my opinion is, that there is no more need to be religious about Linux desktop environments, because they can ALL do the job, so it comes down to a matter of taste.

+1 on TuxCommander btw., keep catching myself using it under KDE sometimes (*BLUSH) as Krusader still feels a little bloated for my taste, even compared to Dolphin

That is pretty funny. 

Tux Cmdr does look promising from the screenshots - somehow I missed that one in my search for an FM.

I am LOVING Geany - what a great IDE.  They read my mind.

I don't see any user-definable commands in Tux Cmdr though - not on the right-click menu or under Commands.  I see it has plugins - can these be bash scripts?

Overall it looks pretty complete, and a lot like Krusader.  Haven't seen a Pascal app in LONG time.  I hope I don't patch this one - Pascal was a long time ago for me.

One feature - probably the only feature I ever liked under windows, ever - was the tiling in win7. Imagine my delight when I found out that it was present in KDE4.4 also! Having just gained that I am loathe to lose it again. And proper tiling WMs are still a step too far for me... Is there such functionality for openbox? Anybody?
