Hello all,
I created small live cd based on Arch init scripts. Here are some points:
* It's contains only console tools, no X stuff.
* Very small, iso have only 29 MB
* Contains Arch install script, you can make ftp install
* Full kernel from Arch (takes 17 MB, system takes only 12 MB smile ), hwdetect is used
* Based on uclibc (small, but binary incompatible)
* Many utils are supplied by busybox
* Big set of utils: mc, centericq, bashburn, music player ...
* Links web browser with framebuffer support (can display images)
* No wireless, ppp support yet sad

Here is list of packages:  alsa-utils, archsetup, bashburn, bastet, cdrdao, cdrtools, centericq, curl, dialog, dosfstools, dvd+rw-tools, eject, enigma, ettercap, ext2resize, fbi, flac, grub, htop, iptables, jfsutils, lame, lilo, links, mc, mime-types, moc, mpg123, mutt, netcat, nmap, normalize, ntfsprogs, openssh, openssl, reiserfsprogs, rsync, screen, snarf, speex, squashfs-tools, tcpdump, vorbis-tools, vsftpd, xfsprogs + some libs

You can download iso at: http://kotek.net/minimax/livecd.iso
MD5: 624cc78f0f1326e6ff153e32ca0b1dcc

There are some messages during booting about /dev/ram0 mounting, ignore it.

Please test it and report possible bugs.

Thanx

You'll be adding wireless then? I'd be interested when that happens.

There are already PKGBUILDs for nearly all the wireless drivers out there.

Contact z4ziggy[at]user-contributions[dot]org

He's got PKGBUILDS for them all, and all setup to go with a liveCD.

Reading this very interesting post, I have been tempted to try links with the framebuffer driver (above mentioned). What an awesome browser!!! I really think that links should be compiled by default with --enable-graphics --with-fb also in arch, thus a lot of people would not install X anymore in their desktop system:)

Re: Micro livecd based on Arch, testers wanted, only 30 MB

Awesome project; already used it to recover a mysql database from an old (last time anything was updated was about 2001) freebsd server that isn't allowed to connect to the campus network anymore... it was actually rootkit'ed.  When I tried to use knoppix on it, the boot up took so long that I was able to stare at the screen for ten minutes, look for another liveCD, find minimax in the forums, download it, and burn it all before the boot-up had complete.  Conversely, boot-up took ~4 minutes with minimax.

So what image size are you aiming for with the project;  like are you going for 32mb flash drive, a 50mb business card cd, or something else?

Just to let you know, the links to arch are broken on your site.
