What do you think about "TAB" support in Openbox?

What do you think, need or not need?

This is the only thing I miss in Openbox..

Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

What do you mean by "TAB" support? Alt-Tab works here, Tab-completion also works, ...

Re: What do you think about "TAB" support in Openbox?

seems to be against the flow of the thread but i personally think as far as features go openbox is perfect as it is, the only things i would want in ob is more eye candy and theming options.

Think of a web browsers tabs, that, but for any appliction. So i could open a browser and a terminal and put them in the same window with tabs so i could chose which to look at, kind of a space saver.

Re: What do you think about "TAB" support in Openbox?

If you want tabs, use Fluxbox (especially that one), ION3 or PekWM. OB is fine as it is, there is no use in cramping too much stuff into it.

Ok, thanks.  I vote no, because I don't think it is necessary and the reason I like OpenBox is I customize it to my liking (like using the program of choice to set background, imagemagick for me, and what panel, pypanel for me, etc.).

Re: What do you think about "TAB" support in Openbox?

I never saw the point of tabs like in fluxbox. Someone mentioned to save space. I'd rather just have more virtual screens and roll through them with the scroll button. Or just roll the application itself up.

Voted no.  tongue

If yes, must be able to turn it off. I happen to like being able to background windows with a middle-click.

I don't really care, I wouldn't use the feature.

All keys in openbox are re-bindable so you can set middle-click to do whatever you want.

I'd love tabs in OB. I don't want to use fluxbox, just never felt as clean and efficient as openbox does. Neither PekWM or Ion3 are comparable in their operating style to OB.

What brought this thread up? Is there a patch floating around? As long as the tabs are able to be disabled, and dont bloat openbox in any form, there's no reason not to include them.

Re: What do you think about "TAB" support in Openbox?

No. They are unnecessary and unintuitive. They won't be going in to openbox any time soon, believe me. As said above, if you need tabs use flux, the reason openbox feels "clean and efficient" is that it doesn't have these crappy features even as an option. No icons in the menu, no panel, no transparency, no pixmap theming, no rounded corners, and no tabs. Fluxbox has all that stuff optional - it doesn't feel as fast as openbox but that's the trade-off.

You choose your side, features or lean-ness, and you stick to it imho.

Nah, I'm just an arrogant elitist arsehole, but that doesn't stop me from being right. I know that I'm right because I chat to Mikachu, and I know how he feels about tabs. And he feels like me - if you want 'em, use something else, because openbox is never going to have 'em.

Your screenshots without toolbars actually look pretty nice, but I question many people's (especially mine) ability to handle that tongue
