That option was removed from packages in favour of the .BUILDINFO file in pacman 5.0.0, released in January 2016! Those package files are old....

All that spam is during the pacman -Sc cleanup step, it does seem to work despite the 40 pages of warning notices. just began happening, i update once a week
So the change causing it is as recent as this week . . I get the hint tho . .
its a perm change, so we will just have to live with the pages of warning spam.
... well at least until it breaks the container altogether . . . its a long lived . .over a decade , , running chroot tree,,,, i guess nothing lasts forever.

I guess the question is why do you need packages that are almost a decade old in your cache?

In case of the OP more likely stale AUR packages (none of that stuff is in the repos, some not even in the AUR)

After $pacman -Sc done today I got this "sample"
xorg-server-utils: unknown key 'makepkgopt' in package description
and several others... none of which are AUR files...
and more interesting not part of any repo...!?
and don't appear to be orphaned...?
Perhaps something for upstream to look at?
