Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I don't use mplayer-plugin, but I find firefox to crash all the time with embedded players when I close the tabs. The problem is probably more related to firefox.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

No crash for me with mplayer-plugin 3.40 and firefox 2.0.0.2
I got no crash with firefox on my machine when I close tabs or at any other time.

Edit: But I had not updated firefox and when I updated firefox to 2.0.0.3, it crashed instantly when I tried to view a video from CNN.I got these error messages:

(firefox-bin:6252): GLib-WARNING **: g_main_context_prepare(): main loop already active in another thread

GLib-ERROR **: file gmain.c: line 2008 (g_main_dispatch): assertion failed: (source)
aborting...

/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  6252 Abandon                 "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

I reinstalled mplayer-plugin 3.35 and I got no crash with firefox 2.0.0.3 with the same video from CNN.
so
mplayer-plugin 3.40 and firefox 2.0.0.2 : no crash
mplayer-plugin 3.40 and firefox 2.0.0.3 : crash
mplayer-plugin 3.35 and firefox 2.0.0.3 : no crash

I don't know if the problem is with mplayer-plugin 3.40 or firefox 2.0.0.3, it's not clear to me.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I get alot of firefox crashes, some from closing tabs, tho others happens just when a page loads for some reason. I havn't really tried to figure out what was causing it yet.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Hi, I tried to change the $HOME/.mplayer/config file to

vo=xv,x11
ao=arts,alsa

And I can hear online radio. Not tried video yet.

Edit:
I also did

rm /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*

and reinstalled mplayer-plugin package. Now I can see videos too big_smile

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Hi insane
Thanks to share with us what you've done.
But I can't see how it can be useful (at least for me) :
You didn't say what was your problem with mplayer-plugin. Crashes in firefox or what else ?
You didn't say what firefox version you use and what mplayer-plugin version you reinstalled.
You didn't say what was in your $HOME/.mplayer/config file before you changed it.
And I don't see why doing 'rm /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*' before reinstalling mplayer-plugin could possibly be different from upgrading the package by pacman, as pacman will overwrite the files '/opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*' during the upgrade.
So for me the problem 'mplayer-plugin 3.40 and firefox 2.0.0.3 : crash' stays unsolved.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Hi, I didn't mention my problem because it's like some other posters in this thread. Firefox crashes when I try to play streaming media. Be it video or online radio. No warnings, no freezing, it just closes.  I use Swiftfox 2.0.0.3 and mplayer-plugin 3.40. My DE is KDE and these two lines stopped Swiftfox crashing while playing online radio.

As for 'rm /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*' I guess I spoke to early. Somehow I deleted the Flash 9 plugin too and that stopped the crashes. When I installed Flash 9, the crashes came back. I repeated the experiment and the results were the same. So the problem stays unsolved for me too.

Haven't tried earlier version of mplayer-plugin yet.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I'm having the issue as well...anytime it tries to load a media stream, it will crash the browser (or sometimes freeze it) and gives an error message dialog box.  I'm not at home right now so I can't provide version info or the actual error text, but rest assured that you're not alone.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

After the last upgrade, the xulrunner package has updated to 1.8.1.3-1 instead of 1.8.1.1-2
it is said that now it is in sync with firefox 2.0.0.3
So I rebuild with makepkg the mplayer-plugin 3.40-1 package which uses xulrunner as a makedepends package.
And now I get no more crashes with firefox 2.0.0.3 smile

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Hi insane
I ran the 5 video tests from your link : no crash, no error messages.

Did you rebuild the mplayer-plugin 3.40-1 package and reinstall it ?
What error do you get ?

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I copied everything from /var/abs/extra/multimedia/mplayer-plugin/ to /var/abs/local/mplayer-plugin and ran makepkg. Then reinstalled. The version is 3.40.
I don't get any error messages. The browser just closes.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Just to be sure, insane :
You rebuilt mplayer-plugin with xulrunner 1.8.1.3-1 installed ?
You restarted firefox before testing ?

Can you post the result of 'll /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*'
I want to verify the size of the files.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

As for now I switched back to mplayer-plugin-3.35. I have decompressed the 3.40 package to some other folder, just to get the ll, because I don't want to break again my system. So the listing is

[insane@arch mpl]$ ll opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 insane insane 299966 2007-04-01 22:37 opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in-dvx.so

For your questions the answer is yes. I even typed about:plugins to make sure.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Here is what I get :

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root   1021 avr  1 15:07 /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in.xpt

In bold what is different for me.
I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, but it should be the same size, I think.
So something might be different on your machine.
Do you want me to send my mplayer-plugin-3.40-1.pkg.tar.gz file to you ?

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I tried everything I could imagine to make it work. Still no joy. I think I will keep my old 3.35 version and will try again the next version. I believe if it is such a headache to get it running, then it has more issues to be taken care of. So I will stay with what works already. Thank you for your time.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I find mplayer-plugins works pretty well compared to most other distros. It might be worth trying the MediaPlayerConnectivity plugin - this replaces the video with an icon, which you can click to open the stream in another application, maybe MPlayer itself. IME this works when plugins don't.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I am getting the same problem (and same error message) with firefox-2.0.0.5 and mplayerplug-in-3.40-r2. But it doesn't crashed every time. With free.tv, it crashes. With Apple trailers, the trailer begins but after a short while, it freezes.
I know that mplayer-plugin package is compiled with 'xulrunner>=1.8.1.4'. Does anyone experience the same problem?
I found out that using "vo=gl" it is a little bit better.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

I found that the mplayer-plugin package must be compiled against the xulrunner version which is in sync with firefox.
So you can try to recompile it yourself or reopened an old bug  about this same issue.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Thanks berbae for your answer.:)
So, I will recompile the package with 'xulrunner>=1.8.1.5' to sync it with firefox-2.0.0.5 and see if it solves the problem.

For my understanding: mplayer-plugin-3.35 was xulrunner version 1.8.1 dependent. Is it why you can still use it with firefox-2.0.0.*?

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Do you say that mplayer-plugin-3.35 is more stable with any firefox-2.0.0.* than mplayer-plugin-3.40 ?
If so, I don't know exactly why it is like that, maybe some new features in mplayer-plugin-3.40 make it more dependent on a current xulrunner version ?
I only found that recompiling the plugin makes it stable on my machine after firefox and xulrunner updates.
The change log for mplayer-plugin-3.40 is :

Version 3.40 Released

    * Build Fixes
    * ASX/RTSP playlist changes
    * X and GTK1 compile fixes
    * GUI fixes and updates

So I think it's still better to use the last version even if an older one may seem more stable.

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

Ok, I recompiled mplayer-plugin with xulrunner-1.8.1.5-1 and I've tested it with firefox-2.0.0.5. No success sad . Firefox didn't crash but, with free.tv, the video doesn't start and Firefox freezes. On an other site, mplayer is connecting, buffering but it stops.
I get this error:

GLib-WARNING **: g_main_context_prepare(): main loop already active in another thread

By the way, with Konqueror and Kmplayer-plugin I can get these videos running. I will do some others tests later with others settings to see if it helps.

When I use mplayer-plugin noembeded with this setting:

noembed=1

Almost everything works

Re: mplayer-plugin problem

This link works for me, the streams play embedded.
The only problem is that my band width is not high enough for the streams to play smoothly (I only have a 512 kbs internet connection).
But apart from that, the streams start and I don't get any error or warning messages.
I have
vo=gl
ao=alsa
but I don't know if this is important in your case.
