Hi,
I've just made a clean install and for some reason xchat-gnome doesn't start. The window doesn't even show only the notification that the program has crashed. I've tried to compile the package localy but that didn't help.
I realize this isn't much info to work with but what info would be useful and how do I gather it?
I would be really glad if someone could help me figure this one out.

I get the exact same issue! When running from the terminal I get the following errors:
(xchat-gnome:6403): libglade-CRITICAL **: glade_xml_get_widget: assertion `self != NULL' failed
(xchat-gnome:6403): libglade-CRITICAL **: glade_xml_get_widget: assertion `self != NULL' failed

(xchat-gnome:6403): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_entry_get_text: assertion `GTK_IS_ENTRY (entry)' failed
I hope this helps someone who can solve this problem! Thanks!

i did a clean install yesterday too, but xchat-gnome works without a problem here.

Could it have something to with what repos we are using?
I'm using current, extra, community, testing and unstable.
nuopus, NeoEx and baze, what repos are you using?

i use those 5 aswell. the only thing from unstable is gimp-devel. from testing i use
alsa-lib
alsa-utils
ipw3945
kernel26
klibc-udev
openssl
udev
and then i use self-built avahi, libburn, nss-mdns and squeeze-svn. not really any packages which i think could cause this stuff to work here.
i use the hosteurope mirrors, maybe some packages are broken on your server, though i don't expect that.

i've found the problem!
open gconf-editor and go to /apps/xchat and change 'version' to '0.17'. here it was simply blank.

My xchat in the editor is blank period. all I have is xchat and some folders, but they are all blank. how do I either remove these or have them recreated?

Though I wont be able to check this at my installation for a while I do think the problem has been identified. Apparently something has gone wrong when installing the Gconf-schemas. But only for some of us. And why?

I have the same thing in gconf, how do I set 1.17? apparantly I can only set 1, 2, 3 etc...
Use the Source, Luke!

why not fixed on the PKGBUILD??
Its a sick world we live in....

I checked my installation and as I suspected it also lacked the version in gconf. Changing the value type to string and the value to 0.17 solved the problem
