I've got to admit that it looks much better than I thought it was going to.

Good job to all...

* Now that the background of the site is pure white, the tan color of the boxes on the homepage does not make as much sense. It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't really seem to fit with the rest of the page either.

* The light blue bars above each forum post do not fit with the light and dark gray boxes of the post.

The colours will likely change a bit as the entire website is fleshed out.  When I made the comp for the homepage, I had envisioned a natural palette of light greys and browns contrasted with splashes of blue here and there.  As I only  had access to the main website (thanks again cactus!), I didn't want to deviate too far from the original design without first seeing the bigger picture.  If we run with the tan, it should probably be used more in other parts of the site for consistency (wiki side boxes perhaps?)

I also just want to give a big THANK YOU to simo for working on the Forums, Wiki and Bugs sites last night--I imagine that wasn't fun, but I think it looks much better than having the new logo just on the homepage and the old logo everywhere else--great job.

That will fit in nicely with my internal color scheme. I understand that's not important for the community, but Whoooopeeeeeee!!!!!

Re: The new site design is...

I'm quite disappointed. The logo itself is really good, but the entire website looks extremely raw and there is too big color contrast. However, I don't say to throw it away and start from the beginning, but rather to improve some details. For example this huge big white space above the navigation bar. A bit of light gradient or quite darker color should make things better. In fact, a bit darker colors should appear in other places with text, too. I would also add some small graphical details to make the headlines something more than a plain single-color area.

I've got also a feature request. There are also some national Arch Linux websites around the Internet. It would be nice to prepare some artworks and themes for them, with places for the national colors or flags, localized texts etc., like we did it with the old Polish Arch Linux Wiki logo: http://wiki.arch-linux.pl/

It was already posted that the color scheme will be updated. As well, that huge white space, as phrakture noted, is because of ad blocking. Turn that off and you can watch Ads by Google follow you around the web.

Hehe... to each their own, I suppose.  I have to admit I didn't even know the Arch website used ads until I took a peek at the source code. I've been using Ad Block far longer than I've used Arch.  I have since given the website a green light, so as to help with revenues and whatnot, but I don't blame others if they choose to do otherwise smile

Re: The new site design is...

Colors are raw and personally i'm not into that logo. It's really not representing arch in way i see it - as really cutting edge in all OS'. But. Maybe it's just me. I'll probably get used to it...

I totally disagree - bleeding edges and shiny blades all over! But yes, it also took me some time to accommodate ...

Re: The new site design is...

I also think we would need some more darker colors, and *turn off* this bright blue big_smile
But yeah, I'll just wait and see what you come up with. I'm quite confident it's gonna be nice smile

Re: The new site design is...

Awesome! I also was skeptic about the new logo. I even thought the old logo was better but seeing the context now it looks great.

By the way, is it just me but I notice the logo used in the upper left corner of the website is *a bit darker* than the one in archlinux.org/art?

The logo looks very sharp, as in you wouldn't want to sit on it accidentally or pick it up with your bare hands. smile

The blue on the forum posts is too bright, but I understand it's a "work in progress".

Re: The new site design is...

While I am sure that the AUR will be integrated at some point, I am wondering whether you intend to do some more work on the Bug section...
I am thinking that including the buttons for the login (maybe even search) etc in the blue bar below the grey one (like it is here in the forums) would really look nice and consistent...

Edit:
Also, and I know I am being a PITA here, the fonts in the "Forum blue bar" and "Wiki blue bar" are of different size.

My eyes stopped bleeding! smile  That fluorescent blue was a bit too much lol.  Is there any way to offer a choice between the 2?  I'm sure some people prefer the blue.
