Headphones, still plays out speakers.

Hi, I am using a HP dv6707us laptop and when I plug in headphones to the jack on the front, sound continues to play out the speakers.. How can I change this behavior?

This is how I fixed that on my HP. I'm not really sure which one actually fixed the problem or if it was some magic combination, but I somehow managed to get it to work without cracking it open and cutting wires. big_smile

Hope that helps. hmm

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

Ive seen that wiki page and no luck.  Actually I think that instead of "options snd-hda-intel module=laptop", it's "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop".  I've tried that and the model=hp option.  Still no luck.

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

For the acer, iirc, within kmix I had to mute Surround I believe (which controls the front speakers) & leave headphones unmuted.  Try that.

Its in windows (can't convince her to switch to linux), but I'll see if there is something similar to surround in the windows control panel.

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

There are no options in alsa mixer or the gmixer besides Master, PCM, and capture.  There are no options for front speakers or headphones or anything.

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

I am in linux KDE desktop.

When I right click on KDE volume icon, I get "show mixer window".

The mixer window provides options for switches which may provide th avenue for headphone mute of speakers.

In addition, another reference to a laptop did something similar with the "volume" icon.

I assume you fellas have all seen these?

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

One clue you may have seen was to have the headphones plugged in  and reboot.  The mute control would then be enabled because the control item (headphones) are installed.

Re: Headphones, still plays out speakers.

I tried booting it up with the headphones plugged in and the model set as hp.  Any one else have some suggestions?
