PNG thumbnails don't show up in thunar

My first post as an Arch user

I just installed thunar and it works great.

However I have one problem - thumbnails for PNG and SVG images do not show up.  JPG thumbnails work fine, and the icon theme I have chosen for folders, etc. also shows up.  Only PNG and SVG seem to have trouble.  The odd part is that all the thumbnails show up when thunar is opened as root.  I have tried to update my icon cache but so far it hasn't worked.  Please let me know if you have any ideas.

EDIT: It appears that it's not even generating thumbnails for PNGs, as the only thumbnails I have in my ~/.thumbnails folder are for JPEG images.

solved the problem: for some reason I didn't own the .cache folder in my home directory.
