How can I set the virtual console font?

I've just setup fonts in X, but now I want to use the Terminus font in the virtual consoles as well. I know I have to change my rc.conf CONSOLEFONT variable (which is set to nothing at the moment, just like CONSOLEMAP), but to what do I have to change it? There are like a million Terminus fonts in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts/ :

You can try out fonts out with setfont, for example (as root on console):

setfont ter-114f

That font is also the one I use, because it is about the same size as the default one (and isn't thin like ter-114n).

This works very well, but how do I make it so that it keeps these settings next time I reboot? (Or, to make it execute this command each time before I log in to my desktop environment?)

Hey, that worked! (Although, it only changes the font like 1/2 way through the booting process; if only there's a way to make Arch spit out all the boot messages, from the beginning, in Terminus -- that would be even better).

Here's an idea:

1) Make sure that mkinitcpio.conf is configured to include keymap hook; regenerate boot images.
2) add "loglevel=0 quiet" to kernel boot line in /boot/grub/menu.lst

This should suppress all kernel messages and the only output Arch init stuff.  Since the font will be loaded from the boot image everything that's displayed should use the same font.  I never tried this, but in theory this should work.

Well, I actually like seeing all those kernel messages before Arch takes over and gets into /etc/rc.conf, etc. Maybe what I'm searching for is a little too much.

I think you might find that making "everything" appear in terminus font might turn out to be a not so trivial task. If I were you I'd stick to what I .. erh .. you .. currently have.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. It says in the wiki pages that the keymap hook takes the CONSOLEFONT variable from /etc/rc.conf and enables it early on in userspace. Neat.
